Title: Made a bit more progress myself...
Post by: gumpy on April 05, 2008, 08:50:42 AM
This past week, I finally got two drawers installed under the bunks. I started these last fall, but the weather kind of stopped all work till this past week.

The latches are Hafele positive latch push button latches. They're very cool. I used a biscuit cutter to make a slot in the face frame for the latch bolt. I'm going to find some very thin foam rubber to put around the edge of the drawer to minimize rattling.

Will add a few photos in the next few posts....

Craig, I want to use the same latches myself.  How many did you have to buy at once?

oh yeah, how about them pictures?

You just couldn't freakin wait, could you??!? No! Just had to get your post in the middle of my photos! Geez!  :o

So, there's some photos. You happy now?  ;)

I bought 50 of them. I don't know if there's a minimum, but I think you get free shipping if the order if over either $200 or $300. Don't recall which. You have to have a company account. I can order them for you if needed. My mark-up is pretty low  ::)

They have a huge catalog of stuff. Some real interesting things. Not too many I can use on the bus, though. Maybe some nice lights I saw in there.

Brian,

I got latch/knobs like that but in a brass color from Rocklers.
By the looks of them I could replace the center knob with any
other standard knob (for that something extra to match the towels :) )

  Craig............looks really nice

Craig, Looks Good!

Don't pay attention to Brian, he's just jealous! ;)

They look better now than when I saw them last week. At least they're installed!

I really like those latches. When I get to that stage I'll give you a holler.

Take Care,

Paul

Biscut cutter!!!! why did I not think of that.  I used the latches from Rocklers and the brass coated plastic knobs are a real morsel of defecation. The latch is fine but the knobs don't last.
Keep up the good work Gumpy!!!

Gumpy,
Beauty eh?
I like that look.
Coming home next week, has it thawed yet?
Also, have the skeeters hatched yet?
maybe see you when we come through. I need JD to put me a muffler on.

It was in the 60s today. I have very little snow left on the north side of the house and bus. Everything else is gone. Supposed to rain tomorrow, so it'll all be gone.

No skeeters yet. Maybe next week, though. Now that you said something, I don't think I killed one in the bathroom this year. I usually find the first one of the year flying around the bathroom in January. I don't know where he hides, but nearly every year I
find one in there.

Muffler not difficult to put on yourself. If you want to save a few bucks, just pick one up with clamps and I can help you put it on when we get together in July. Get whatever exhaust pipes you need, too, and exhaust tip. Will need a few clamps from NAPA.

You bringing your tractor home?

Mine are about half the cost of the Rockler latches, and mine are solid brass. Very nicely constructed. The latch portion is plastic, but the knob and bezel are brass.

Gumpy,
Yea, we're leaving Louisiana on tuesday, then going to home #1 in Arky to get tractor and other necessities. Should leave for the North country about Thursday.
We'll probably be passin thru on Sat. if lucky. :D
See ya then.
Devin

P.S.
O.K. we'll fix muffler in July. JD already has it in shop. He'll probably be pissed to lose the grand for the install though. ;D

No, he's not that way. They're probably so busy this time of year with their commercial accounts, he'll actually be releived he doesn't have to fit in a private bus job on the schedule. Not that he wouldn't get it in if you really needed it.

It won't take long to replace it. Just make sure you get new clamps and any pipes you might need.

OK Craig, I have been poking around on the Hafele website for about 15 minutes and can't find the pull/latch you are using.  Did sign up for direct purchase (I think), but can't find the part in the thousands of parts they have in their catalog.  Can you list the part number?

About ready to do a few of my cabinets, and want to use your latch of choice.  Would like not to have to bother you, but I may not have enough volume for them to sell to me.

Thanks

Jim

I sent you an email with the numbers. For everyone else, here they are. Note these are for brushed nickel plated brass knobs and bezels. There are different numbers for other finishes.

Push lock, white         #211.60.707
Push knob, nickel plated brass      #229.10.320
Rosette, nickel plated brass      #229.11.320
Strike plate, nickel plated steel      #239.40.703

He has nothing to be jealous of. I've seen his cabinets. He's doing an awesome job on his own.
