As a reminder ( http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=7721.0 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=7721.0) ) the BBS will not be available for posts this upcoming Friday night. We will be moving the BBS to our new home - a totally dedicated server with a MAJOR increase in hardware resources. This should eliminate the lockups and performance problems we have been experiencing as we continue to add more members to our community.
Don't know what time this will start - depends on when I get home from work. Probably later in the evening. The site will only be viewable and will have a status of the move & upgrade posted, but again, you will not be able to add or respond to posts. Chat will be up & down - but if possible I'll try to keep that system up.
The plan is for this to be completed by Saturday morning. DNS will be changed to point to the new site once the new site is ready. It may take a number of hours for the DNS switch to take effect.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
Best Regards, Phil
Go for it!
Thanks Phil for all of your hard work!

Hi Phil,
Can you let our members know if they have to re-enter their user names and passwords once the new site is up and running.
This is directed to us members that stay logged on with saved user names and passwords for certain sites like this one.
Nick-
Hi all,
If I remember correctly, the last time we moved up to a larger server, there were a few users who had to re-enter their logon information. Not quite sure why though, since we are moving all the data from one site to the other (including their preferences) - and - the DNS name ( www.busconversions.com ) is not changing. However, everyone who is a member, will still be a member!! And all posts & images, etc., should be intact.
We may hit a few snags during the few days after the move. Anyone who hits a problem is encouraged to let us know about it so we can get it working properly.
Thanks for all your patience!! :D ;D
Best Regards, Phil
Phil,
Since the DNS will be flakey for a while do you have the new IP address. I can use that
instead of depending on the DNS.

Hope this helps - Phil
Phil,
Thanks.
Since it is still in the same class A domian w/ different sub net, probably won't need the IP.
Didn't know before I asked the question
Thanks

Wow, been a long time since I heard this.
FWIW, there is really no such thing as a "Class A" anymore, and has not been since CIDR was implemented over a decade ago.
Even if there still were "classes," the address above, which belongs to Go Daddy, would be considered part of a "Class B", since Go Daddy has a /16 (pronounced just that way, when conversing with internet geeks: "a slash sixteen") around that address.
All of which is not relevant to your speculation -- DNS has nothing to do with whether the address is part of a /16 or a /4 -- your DNS provider must translate the address for the specific host. "www.busconversions.com" translates to a specific IP address, not a "range" of addresses. If the address translates incorrectly, even if it is only off in the last octet, the traffic will not route correctly, and you will get an ICMP "Destination Unreachable" message (or you'll just end up in the wrong place, if the translated IP actually goes to something).
FWIW.

I appreciate the hard work involved and particularily the money that Mak is kicking out for all this, upgrades of this type don't come cheap and I thank him and the crew here for that.
Amen Cody!
We can never say enough of good things about how hard MAK put into this project.

Seems like this might be a good time for all those freeloading lookeloos to register for the board. Would be real interesting to find out how many are reading the board.

I should have said visitors. I believe MAK's income from the ads is based on the number of registered users. I suspect that there several hundred visitors and It would be nice if they all joined. I know that recently I@N changed his policy on this. I really do not understand why they do not sign up. I do not think there is any personal information involved. Would sure like to see our numbers get to 2,000.
