I recently bought a Eagle converted for an airline executive and want to get it repainted I do not like the AA colors. I have checked with some places like Star, The Paint Dept and Advance. My question is how much should a decent paint job cost with graphics cost I am getting some outrageous prices (I think) and does anybody have a phone number for Willy's Custom Painting in Oregon or know the name of the guy in Springfield MO that paints coaches I have heard he is very reasonable but can not find any information about him.I would like to have my coach painted here in the USA not Mexico thanks
David,I have a number for Mike from a couple of years ago it is 541-343-8411 I also have his cell # I will email you.Talking to Cole last night he understands that Mike is in Okla painting 2 of Roger Penske's new Newells good luck on getting your bus painted
The Paint Depot in Ontario, Cal did my paint job. While I've painted a few cars and have my own paint equipment, the painting of the bus seemed to be too much of a job for me. I had it painted white on the roof, dove gray sides with white stripes and black line accents-so three colors. With the body work and replacing some rivets, the job was $11,000.00. 8 years later it still looks good. I would probably do it again the same way. Good Luck, TomC
Thanks TomC 11,000 is more like the price range I was things too not 18,000 to 21,000 but the prices may be in line with todays market I don't know but the AA colors are looking better with every call I make
EagleLover15...look on the bright side...you have a very unique coach with that paintjob. And when AA goes out of businees or merges with someone, it will really be unique!
Jack
PS...how bout a photo of it...the rest of us will probably tell you it is the prettiest bus we have seen...and if you change it we will have to say THE SPECIAL PRAYER; Dear Lord, may the fleas from a 1000 camels infest EagleLover15's bedsac tonight...for changing colors on such a great looking coach! AMEN ;D
Hi eaglelover15,
Welcome!
You can take a look at this thread about my trip to StarJet Paint in Colombus, OH.

Good Luck
Nick-
Nick did they strip your coach down to the bare metal and start from there for that price thank you
No,
I gave it to them allready stripped and self etching primer applied by me.

Nick-
all depends on where your bus is really.......not worth a cross country drive to save a couple thousand now days.
I have a very good guy here in PA and know of another one that does lots of coaches
I know of a guy who has a great looking Eagle 01. I will find out where he got it painted and let you know if you like. He lives in Portland OR.
luvrbus's Eagle is really sharp, not sure where he had his done though. You might shoot him an email.
Paul
Bus=Big
House=Bigger
House painter seeking work=Bus painted by house painter?
Seems logical.
??? ??? ;D ;)
Good first of April to you!
Grant
I guess it also depends on whether you want your bus to look like a bus or whether you want it to look like a motorhome. ;D
Hey Eaglelover15
I live just outside Springfield MO. I believe the name you are looking for is Dancey Collision. The number is 417-864-4040. I suggest you get references and check them out. Even though I live here, I am looking else where for my Prevost that should be ready for paint this fall.

Rob thanks for the tip another fellow PM me from Branson and told me run no matter what the price was so thanks again
Nick I have been unable to contact Star Jet I get an answering machine and I don't talk to a machine just humans I will try one more time Thursday
Paul I would like information on the 01, I have been in contact with Luvrbus thank you
Tekebird you are 100% right on driving a thousand or so miles your not going to save any money that way
If you guys want a wakeup, call Marathon in Oregon about a paint job
I have been in contact with Mike Wilson of Willy's so far everyone is happy with his work they just have a problem with his time management
thanks to all
Eaglelover15,
The guy I referenced to painted the coach himself with 3 other guys in 72 hours in a big field and rolling platforms.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
You could always get about 100 cans of Krylon and a few cases of Landshark beer and have a painting party with a bunch of friends! ;D
You could take it to Los Algodones Mexico, right below Yuma, and get it done for around 4K. Which includes body work, sanding prep, yes sanding all those rivit heads and 3 color graphics. I seen a couple of buses that have been painted there and they did a good job.

I know people who get their dental work done down there for cheap and are very happy with the results ... why not buses too? :D
Make a dentist appointment and a bus appointment
When you get out of the dentist you will have clean shiny teeth
When you get your bus you will have a shiny new paint job
I love it when a plan comes together
Melbo
LOL .... you guys need to get out more....
I saw George Lowry's bus which was painted in Algodones - it was gorgeous. He doesn't own the bus anymore but I just saw a post from him somewhere saying that it still looks good and its at least 5 years now since I saw it.
Try not to laugh, (well, go ahead it you want) but I/we are actually thinking about employing a high quality finish PAINT BRUSH for the contrast/high lighting wide accent stripes along the sides and front and back of my Crown Super Coach. Total brush costs less than $50 bucks or sooss.
We are/were going to leave the orange/yellow school bus color alone with the white top and employeee light yellow, red and green contrasts on the side, along with the absolutely necessary green and red FLAME JOB coming out of the two engine hatches on the bottom of the sides. Pancake mill admidships.
Seems like a good plan to us. Just now have to wait for warmer/hot weather and $save$ up for the also necessary cheap red wine and beer budget soosss we can apply the proper mood before we apply the proper paint. Speaking of which, since I quite drinking wine, can I have some more beer now? :) :) :)
the brush method is not that far out there. most big yachts are painted with roller and brush method due to restrictions in boat yards. all that is required is the proper prep and the correct materials and reducers. we paint many of the boat bilges with a brush and done right it flows out nice and slick.
steve
my god , don;t paint it with a brush.
It won;t look good and will not last long looking as good as you can get it.
I would not agree with Steve about most big yachts being brush or rollered.
Above the waterline anyway.
Most fiberglass boats are Gelcoated.....and a paint job is onlu done after years of No maint......and typically done right before sale to make it look as good as possible.
Most large metal yachts are painted in Big @$# paint booths and in synch with the cost of a big boat the paint jobs cost big money too.
Wooden boats are a different story......not that there are many new wood boats but the ones you will see are likely to have been brushed or rolled.
I for one would have never let someone paint my 30 foot boat with a brush/roller. a yard neighbor did his 34 foot and it looked good from 20-30 foot and when in the water it was hard to tell......but there your talking a painted surface that is 5-6 feet below eye level and not in direct sight.
I'd never tell anyone to do a ground vehicle that way......unless of course that is all you can afford
I've brushed rolled and sprayed cars. spray is faster and better, and nowadays with compressors as cheap as they are, pretty affordable. You could even use your bus as either a compressor (not sure what and idling engine will do to the wet paint, might help flatten it) or as a big slave tank for your compressor allowing you longer runs with a smaller compressor. Rolled works if you have a good feel for the paint and roller and control the thickness. That being said, with a big ol bus it will be easy to mask off windows etc and the spraying, with a light touch will look pretty good. Almost any paint job looks good from 10 feet away, and they all look good at night in the rain.
Saw about a 38 foot wooden boat hull above the water line that was painted with a 2" roller and it looked like it was sprayed! This guy new what he was doing and didn't have gravity to help him. Thought about doing the roof this way and if someone wants to climb up and see if it was sprayed I'll kick the ladder out, lol. Jim
You can get just as shiny of a paint job with brush and roller as with a spray gun. I live in So. Cal and have seen numerous paint jobs at boat yards where you could easily comb your hair in the reflection. The key is you have to have two people working side by side-one applying the paint by roller with the second immediately behind with a wet brush smoothing out the nappy roller marks, and with the proper amount catalyst according to the humidity and temperature of that day your painting. It takes practice, so before you start, try it on a junk car or similar until you get the right results. Painting anything is the easy part, the hard and lengthy part is the prep work. Automotive paint is not like house paint-everything underneath the paint will show through on automotive paint, compared to house hold paint that can be dabbed on thickly to cover mistakes. No matter which way you paint it, whether it be by brush/roller or spraying, both paints have to be able to flow out to obtain a smooth finish. If you make a mistake on putting too much catalyst in the paint, it won't flow and will dry too quickly leaving an orange peal finish (with spraying) or brush marks, and will appear to be just semi glossy. With all the prep work, knowledge about paints needed, possible mistakes that can be made with mixing the paint, this is why I choose to pay $11,000 for my paint job. Good Luck, TomC
thanks for the tips guys but I am not going the spray can or the brush and roller route I priced the materails for painting and they are not cheap and the products are not for rookies like me
I have been in contact with Willy's and he is doing some mock up paint jobs on paper to use some of the existing paint with graphics to save me some dough being the bus has a lot of white now.If you guys know of any problems with him let me know I have saw pictures of 5 Eagles and 1 Newell he painted and they are beautiful paint jobs.I know he has a problem with getting the job out on time but I can live with that but not other problems PS I don't have a boat thanks

No reason not to use parquet just because of that bus. Parquet does not have to be that dark. That color looks like the 70s. The picture of the living room looks like a really bad install job too.
That said, there are plenty of other real and fake wood alternatives that are easy to install and look good. I haven't seen any new installs of parquet in a long time. I'm guessing that parquet is out of style right now. I don't know that I would install real wood in a motorhome, but that is just me. I have enough problems with the wood floors in my house with seasonal changes and a bus would probably be worse.
I took mine to Los Algodones Mexico last year and had it painted. They stripped to the bare metal took 6 days. They do great work $5300 and they installed new stainless on the front. The coach was there 16 days, they were working on 3 others at the same time.

That floor just looks like it's been deep in french fry oil.
...'scuse me, but it sounds like some of youse guys are a bit over the top......my guess is that the Parquet is sound as a dollar (not in today's exchange :D) and, anyway...what would one want for $12,500 (reserve)? Had I the $$$ I would buy it in a heartbeat, and donate it to a missionary or needy person or organization and take the writeoff.
Good grief...go out and price a motor home of any vintage that offers as much as this one SEEMS to offer and tell us it is a " better or even close, deal". Can't come close, I would guess. The price, even if one needed a major overhaul or transmision, when added together wouldn't touch a stick and staples....forget the rubber, generator, cabinets, etc, etc.
Flooring is cheap...and hardwood is a great sound barrier, over which one could put any number of things....cork, carpet, tile, etc. My coach is a '64 and has given miles of pleasure, without the expense I have had on manufactured motor homes. Comfortable, practical, and done as we wanted it. Underneath, the chassis is reliable, strong and has served very well for the original owner, Northern Arizona University, and for us for 7 years.
Parquet flooring turning one off...can't fathom that! Just my HO.... :).
Pleeze...pardon my practicality... ;D ;D

Gary,
How is the drive across the border and in and out of his shop?
What kind of paint did you use? Imron or base / clear?
Hi Jim
Getting across the border was easy, driving down the narrow main street with all the vendors was tricky. Manuel built a shop about 8 miles out of town on 10 acres with a 60 ft paint booth. There were 3 other buses there when we were there . We stayed on site for 16 days in the bus and visited with our new bus friends. One of the other bus owners from Seattle was sent there by his friend who had a flexible painted there 8 years ago. He highly recommend this shop. He happend to drop by with his bus while we were there. The paint still looked great.
We chose to use base coat and clear coat. He will use Imron if you want.
Gary
GaryW what do you do if you are not satisfied with the paint job I have heard that you can not do much about over there true or not
That's why I stayed there to make sure it was done right. I've seen some guys there have them redo some work. I had a couple spots that I asked them to do over no problem. Manuel wasn't happy with the panels below the front window, so he had his men remove the panels and they re painted them.
Gary
I spoke with Manuel today. I'm not ready yet because I need to do some work on my front cap. Manuel said the paint has gone up, bring $8500 and the coach 10 days from now, and I could have 4 color Emron and be gone in 3 weeks.
If the existing paint is in good condition and you don't mind the pattern a new clear coat could solve your problem. A tinted clear coat can really change the color completely. Many of the really fancy paint jobs have a bright gaudy base color and a tinted clear coat that makes them fantastic. Candy Apple Red being one that comes to mind. Any of the "well deep" colors are done that way. If you are starting with red and blue, you could end up with burgundy and plum with the right top coat. Add a few accents of gold and you are on the road. Oh, and top coats don't have to be high gloss, the can be made from mat finish all the way up to high gloss.
Don and Cary
GMC4107
Neoplan AN340
And if they are solid colors, add some pearl, blue or red and have a very differant affect on color.
Blue pearl over black comes out a very deep blue.
FWIW
Paul
Paul and Cary you ideas and Willy,s are on the same line I am taking the coach to him next week he is going to take some of the colors and go from light to dark and use tinted clear coats I will try and post the final paint you guys on this board have been a great help in this process thanks
NJT, do you have to choose your colors before you get there, or can you choose and he gets the paint while the prep is being done? Do you think base clear is any less than Imron?, or fewer colors? Maybe I should just call him..... but $8,500 seems good enough to just get it done.
I too have some prep that needs to be done. Some lower rub panels on each of the 4 corners that need replacing. Some minor fiberglass work too.
Does anyone have feed back on Manual's designs? I have some ideas, but probably need help there too.
Jim
My wife did the design for ours on the computer, then we showed them to Manuel. We were in the paint booth marking out the graphics and they still messed them up. That's why we stayed there to make sure it was done they way we wanted. They will correct their mistakes.
Gary
Gary, sounds like a good idea, what software did you use?
Jim
We just used Photo Shop.My wife is an artist so she just worked with photos of the bus to get the results she wanted putting in the graphics where she wanted and different colors. Then we printed the photos to take with us.

Is that Two Dogs bus? ???
My friend did it for the cost of the paint.
I did not have a plan and let him do it (artistic freedom).
He painted it after the most popular bus in the world, did all the prep work and it looks really good.
He is just outside of Portland , Maine.
not two dogs bus ED he had a 05 but looks like the same painter did the work (painting by WM)
