As you all know Kyle made his venture up to Delaware to buy and pickup his scenic cruiser. He brought a Pickup/chase vehicle loaded for bear with every tool and supply imaginable. He also brought 2 helpers. A well prepared trip that was full of adventure.
Tenor, Bought my old 4905 and came and got it in Green Bay on one of the coldest days of the winter. He also was well prepared for anything bringing a Mechanic and a truck load of supplies then drove up around the UP shutting the bus off overnight (Ballsy) and I think he had a pretty uneventful trip as far as trouble.
Well true to my fly by the seat of my pants, have no fear Charley Davidson is here attitude I left yesterday morning on Gary's unlicsensed Harley, a pocket full of cash and took off for Jersey running 90 MPH in the rain to pick up a 1975 4905 that was destined for the scrap yard. No tools, No Ductape, No bailing twine, no Amish Shop Smith (Leatherman) and no idea of anything about this bus I looked it over, made a couple phone calls to the guy who's money I had (Gary AKA the Mouse)to let him know the condition of the bus and my opinion. Gave the guy the money, drove it to EDNJ's (Ed & Sue) house to spend the night. Ate some great ribs and drank some Stewart's Root Beer, Got a good nights sleep with Sporty my dog I let them have a`few weeks back. Got up this morning and Ed ran me around to some big truck junkyards looking for a centrifuge then ate some lunch and took off in the untagged 4905 and headed back to Bruce Knee's. I had a cop get behind me for 2 blocks that made me a bit nervous but other than that I had a very uneventful trip back. The bus ran 75 MPH with no problem. Very solid bus with only 200,000 miles on it. Has the typical 4905 bay door issues with the torsion bars and 2 beat up bay doors but no real rust issues other than the rear engine door frame. Sweet deal for a cream puff.
Hi Ron,
Yup, your a real Brave and Crazy man... How far did you ride up through Jersey before you realized there is a Helmet Law here? ;D
But, a great adventure to say the least, I'm sure.
See Ya Soon
Nick-
Hi Charley...what you don't know is that without the pickup loaded for bear, (Geese, chickens, bison, elephants, etc.) and the one and a half helpers Kyle had with him...that thrip would have been a lot worse!
Hope you and the puppy are doing GREAT!
Jack
Ron,
This just proves what I have always believed and seen,
If you ACT and LOOK like you know what your doing, NO one will question you.
Of course, they may have just been hoping that you would get that thing out
of there jurisdiction so they wouldn't have to deal with it!!! ;D
Nice story..
Cliff
My trip would have been uneventful if we had not tried to stop anywhere . . .
& you should have seen the pile of supplies I had to leave behind because Jack & I have very different ideas of what 'plenty of room' means! ;D
Big difference b/w 200,000 miles & 4,000,000+ :o.
The only 2 problems I really had were the reverse solenoid over travel issue which was an easy but very greasy fix, And the starter solenoid being on it's last leg & refusing to cooperate if warm :(.
BTW, uneventful trips don't make as good a campfire stories ;D
Glad you made it so easily. Next time I'll know who to call. 8) >:(
Charley,
How'd you get the bike back? I know a Sporty would lay down in a bay, but I wouldn't do it! Glad your trip went so easily!
Riding back to Jersey with Ed & Sue, they came down last night for the weekend. Then I'll spend the night there (maybe 2) then after scavaging some scrap yards for a centrifuge and other parts I need for my WVO conversion I'll head back.
I'm looking for some gigs in your area between may 31st and June 12th if you can help a brother out let me know.
I'm Back :D
