Yesterday we joined the ranks of the moden, modem, moderm, (yikes) people that run around with cell phones, yep got a phone with no cord and a bunch of really cool buttons on it. In the process of becoming civilized I was asking questions and found out something that might be helpful for a bunch of us. Being retired from a governmental unit qualified me for a 12 to 15% discount on it all, we got ours thru sprint but other carriers might offer the same thing, hey every little bit helps. The savings might even help buy a quart of fuel if I save them up. Check it out guys, if a person can save a couple of bucks it'll help, just thought I should pass this on, I'm sure some on here are retired from government jobs, seems they don't like to advertise this discount but it's there, now I'm going to check on other discounts, just last month they dropped my monthly rate a few dollars on my air card just because I asked them too, ain't life great? lol
I have had an old beater NOKIA trak phone for about 8 years now. Bulletproof. I can not kill this phone and believe me, I have really tried. Been dropped, then kicked, deep drowned, frozen, roasted, neglected, left in the deep freeze along with the icecream for 3 days, (now that is a story) and still works great. Works anywhere in the USA. Ducked taped together. $Cost$ me about $10.00 bucks (US) a month to run, no annual contracts, no monthly fees; it works for me. Pay as you go. The Japanese make a fine product. :) :) :)
I hate to break it to you but Nokia is not a Japanese company ;)
pAUL,
fESS UP. yOU DIDN'T REALLY HATE TO BREAK THAT TO HIM.
John
Cody.... just curious, but which carrier are you using? And is the govt. retiree discount for any level of govt. (i.e. Federal, State, County and Local)?
Thanks.
Kirby
Kirby, we have sprint, I'm retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections, all I had to do was show them a paper that verified my occupation, I used my CCW for that.
I'm a postal worker (USPS) at&t gives a 25% discount on the first line, and all accories, more on some too. I'm still working not retired but wishing.
All this info is fine and dandy and I'm pleased that discounts apply in some cases. And ta da, ta da and so on. But you didn't give us your phone number, Cody! Or was that the point of the whole thing? :D

Yep for the record, Nokia is based in Finland. They do however have manufacturing sites scattered across the globe. My Nokia phone was built in Korea. They also manufacture in China, Brazil, India, and several European locations. To my knowledge they do not manufacture cell phones in Japan.
Bob, I posted the discount thinking a few might be able to save a couple of bucks, most company's won't openly tell you about available discounts so they can pull in more money lol. My cell number is 863-990-5877, but actually I'm just getting comfortable with using a toaster, just not very good at the high tech stuff yet, we had to get a cell after that last semi ran over our string and broke it, anyone want a good deal on 2 tin cans and a piece of string? (string needs a new knot) lol.

Well at least it ain't those dang charter buses coming and going at all times of the day & night breaking it anymore! And I wish I'd had yer number this week end, to call ya and ask ya how much it would cost us to rip out the drivers floor and stairs platform(not the steps unless it was easier to rip it all out), and about the first 3-4' of the passenger area flooring and redo it. Materials and a realistic labor price as we were trying to negotiate a price on a Setra that was ROUGH, but had potential if things could've worked out. But as it was the coach itself made our decision that we needed to pass on it when on the second day of inspecting it, the electronics on it went haywire and said don't walk but run! Run for the forest run! LOL! ;D BK ;D
Verizon gives a discount to Police and Firefighters, both paid and Volunteers...Not sure exactlly how much, but every little bit helps !
