HELP!
I need to know how to line the marks?, on gears for an 8-92 at the rear of the engine. I'm needing to replace bell housing gaskets and want to be sure to keep the engine in time.
Richard
Do you have a DD manual in sec 1.7.1 page 2 it shows the timing marks for LH and RH engines its simple to time if you need help I will be happy to do what I can.RDbishop all of the bolts need to be tighiten sequence with the correct torque on the bell housing or it will cause you problems if you do not have a manual for the engine somebody posted a site where you could download one for free a couple of weeks ago good luck
are you going to pull the cams out of the engine or just try and remove the cam gears
Thanks Twostroke,
I'll see if I can find the site. I'm replacing both gaskets at the bell housing due to leaks. I went to the coast a couple of weeks ago and leaked about two gallons of oil. The engine only has about 30,000 miles on it since overhaul and the leak has been getting worse. There were a few bolts that were not very tight as I took it apart. I just need to get the gears off so I can replace the gasket behind the metal plate and didn't want to mess up the timing.

You may be way ahead of this, but, be sure and pull the wear ring, or install one if it doesn't have one, on the rear main crank surface.
The bell housing must be checked for concentricity at the rear oil seal when reinstalled.
Rear main seals match the wear ring and rotation of the engine.
Lots of truck parts guys think all buses have LH engines.
If you use a teflon seal, it goes together dry. Don't lube the lips of the seal. Scary huh?
You got a job ahead of you...but...it's a journey!
I bought a CD V92 service manual for almost nothing off ebay. $20 bucks?
It works fine. I usually print out the pages needed for whatever I'm screwing up. I'd prefer a print manual, but not for what they typically sell for.
Make sure you get a "service" manual and not a "maintenance" manual if you look on Ebay.
I suppose that I could make a copy of the thing? I don't see how it could be copyrighted since it's a knock off? Let me know if that would work for you and, if so, I'll dig the CD up. I loaded it into my laptop.
It's in Adobe.
Cheers, JR
Richard, JR has a good point about the rear seal but also check the bearing in the idler gear it is supposed to be pre loaded. The wear ring will come off the crank easy buy using a ball pen hammer tapping it around the crank this will loosen it and you can pull it off by hand.
You also need a puller that use 4 bolts not 2 the DD puller number is a J 1902-1 those gears are not easy to remove and you need the J 1903 tool if I remember right to install the gears
Did you check the 1/4 inch supply line going to the blower to see if it broke or blew the rubber seal out, it is on top of the engine and will pour oil like crazy down the sides
