Hi,
I removed the Luminator brand city transit bus destination sign from my 1994 RTS, and now the dash lights don't work. Normally, the dash lights come on when I turn on the bus headlights. The headlights still work, but the dash lights don't. I didn't cut any wires in the dash when removing the destination sign, but of course I cut many wires up near the destination sign over the windshield when I removed the sign. Any idea how I will get the dash lights to work again? The lights in the dashboard 'idiot light' bank still work, but the lights in the battery meters and the speedometer don't work. The lights that shine on the row of switches to the left of the driver also don't work.
Thanks,
Kevin
Sounds simple enough to me! Try one of these two ways to remedy the problem! first and most reccommen ed is to follow or trace the wires going to the lights that don't work, then using a test light or meter check to see if you have power when the switch is on. If you have a hot wire and no lights you've lost a ground! If you have no power you've lost the power either way, just splice in the needed remedy to the switch and wala lights! The other option is more dangerous for the electrical system but you could run a temporary hot & ground wire both long enough to reach where you cut the wires and 1 by 1 touch each temp wire to it with the switch on and see when the dash lights come on! then ya just make the connection back to the dash light wiring and it's all good again! Again I highly reccomeend the 1st suggestion, but must admit I've been know to do stupid short cuts such as the second one if it is extremely difficult to get to the dash light (or what ever I'm working on) wiring!
;D BK ;D
Oh yeah this also could be the reason we usually have dad do the electrical repairs as he usually has the patience to do it right in the first place ! LOL!
Make sure the "dash light rheostat" switch (on the left hand driver side panel under the window) - didn't get turned to very DIM

Ahhh.... see an even more intellagent answer than mine! And of course from someone who should know a thing or two about RTS's too! LOL!
Thank you Pete for a better solution! LOL!
