Title: Hi Folks, I@N has BNO Back Up
Post by: Nick Badame Refrig/ACC on February 09, 2008, 04:26:19 PM
Here is Ian's post from BNO
Nick-

Hi folks,

Well, we seem to have survived. Please let me know if anything went wrong. I'll see if I can fix it right away. I'll be back in a bit to reactivate the other interactive parts of the web site, including DieselChat.

It's a very long story which brings us to this point, but suffice it to say that there were several options available to me in order to restore the web site and its bulletin board system.

There was never any doubt that there was going to be data lost because I had downloaded both a full system backup of the board, a partial backup of the critical files and a straight download of the files to the desktop of two separate computers - all in the name of securing data.

I apologize that it took so long to set back up again, but I wanted to be absolutely certain that everything was saved from the backups and raw data. Buswarrior was kind enough to phone mid-way through the upload process of regenerating a fresh new bulletin board on the new server, thank you Ewen, I am deeply appreciative. I understand his call and subsequent message on the MAK board did some damage control, as well. Again, thank you all for your patience.

This web site is now running on the new server. Everything that was on the old server is now here with the exception of the links page and, as I mentioned, DieselChat. I've been staring at a computer screen since 9:30 this morning without a break, so I'm going to go find my wife and go out for a pizza for a few hours.

Please note my new email address for troubleshooting. I have set up a number of Hotmail accounts for future additions to this site which I have promised. My email for this bulletin board will now be bnobbs@hotmail.com so feel free to drop me a line there. bossnut@busnut.com is not yet functional at the new server.

Several of you have indicated to me directly or through the MAK bulletin board that you're having difficulty messaging me or obtaining a profile. If you've ever been stymied by that process, I compel you to please try again at this point. The only - and I mean the only - reason you may be denied access to an account is if you have not filled out the information on the registration screen. If you only leave your name and an email address, that's no good. Fill in all the blanks and you're in. Go into your profile once you're in and delete anything you want, but I want to be sure you're a busnut or interested user, not someone who wants to sell penis enlargement pills - I think we've all had enough of that.

So, my dear friends, acquaintances, associates and family members, welcome, welcome back. I missed you and I hope you come back in droves and enjoy the board as you have done in the past. I have two exciting announcements to make in the next few days and hope you will enjoy what's to come.

This message is to Lin: Your message on the MAK board is spot on. I am an asshole, as you so prolifically pointed out. But your opinion of me and your participation on this bulletin board are mutually exclusive, friend. I can't build a registration request on your behalf, but if you'll please take a moment to do so, I will await your registration call and you will have the green light as soon as I see you.

As always, folks, thank you for sticking around. The bbs awaits your comments and responses.

Enjoy :~)

YIPPPPEEEEE!

It's good to know that the BNO is up and at 'em again!

I for one have missed it, and even though I do spend more time here, I also spend time there.

I do my best to learn at least one new thing everyday. sometimes it's here, sometimes at I@ns place, sometimes somewhere else. I can't justify not researching in every possible place because I don't care for this or that part.

On that note, it makes as much sense as destroying all of the research that Bayer (The aspirin people) did in the Nazi concentration and death camps in the years 1933 to 1945. Even though many of those people died horribly and needlessly, if the research information was tossed out because of that, then those lives lost would have been lost for less than no reason with less than no meaning.

Welcome Back I@N! It's great to be a bus nut amongst the greatest in the world!

Actually, regarding Bayer's crimes against humanity, the vast majority of those connected with those horrors believe that using such research is used as a partial justification for what was done.  Sort of like saying, "It's too bad that we tortured and murdered your mother, but it was really okay since we can now benefit from the results."  This is a very controversial subject.  I guess it becomes a corollary for "the ends justifies the means."  I know that this is not what you are saying, but those that are capable of atrocities will use every opportunity to justify them.  I prefer to limit those opportunities.
