Title: Need advice on tires
Post by: Phil H / Chicago on February 09, 2008, 07:33:02 AM
Hey guys,

I need to purchase new tires for my motorhome soon. When I bought it last fall it had eight Michelin 295/80R 22.5 seven year old tires that I knew I would have to replace. I put two new Goodyear G670 of the same size on the front just because they scared me. Would have just replaced them all but with just buying the motorhome hardly had the funds to get to the nearest Flying J. Then I found a man in Ohio selling new take offs but he is out of the size I need now but says he should be getting more soon.

Is there anything wrong with buying "new take off" tires?

Do you know of anyone else who sells them?

I still need six for the rear.

Appreciate the help, Phil

The 295/80R-22.5 is a Michelin size that is a 'tween size between the 11R-22.5 and the 12R or 315/80R-22.5.  Personally, you probably do not need that much tire on the bus anymore.  You might want to consider switching to 11R's for simplicity.  Course the best way to find out is to weigh your bus by axle.

Personally-buying new take off's is like buying a used vehicle-you don't ever know what you're getting.  When it comes to tires and brakes, I want new and the best I can buy.  I would rather buy Bandag recaps for the rear before buying a "new" take off from someone else.  Bandag has extensive inspection methods for their tires.  Good Luck, TomC
