Title: MCI dash
Post by: jhaggerty on January 24, 2008, 02:20:02 PM
Hi folks,

I need to replace the dash oil pressure guage- the hand broke off. Is there enough slack in the wires under the dash to just undo the 2 screws and lift the black panel up to get at the back of the guages? This is an MC 9.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Yes, there should be. The only other way is to remove the wiper, it would be hard to reach thru there. Tom Y

Take the steering wheel off as well if you need better access.

And pull the battery switch!

Lots of bare stuff back there that will touch something while you are dragging it out.

Re-energize for trouble shooting, once you have it where you want it, and are sure nothing is resting against the metal framing.

happy coaching!

May I add that you'll want to keep the LH lower corner of the dash well supported.  If not, you'll dislodge the lower level of idiot lights and you'll have a good time sorting them out.
Lucky you will be working right over the idiot lights too.
If you have any 12V accessories mounted in the dash, I'd remove the bus battery chassis ground and disconnect any house batteries.
You also may have to disconnect the wiper air supply hose.  Some are a little short to pull the dash out far enough to work on anything.  You will not be able to pull the LH side out far, but the RH side will swing out so that you can access about anything on the back of the panel.

Thanks for the info.
I'm going to have a look at it today.
