Title: I'm going 80 mph in my driveway!
Post by: Paladin on January 22, 2008, 02:00:23 PM
I've noticed that my speedometer sits at 0 or low deflection with the master power off but as soon as I turn it on the speedometer flips up to full deflection and says that I'm going 80mph. As long as the master power is on it doesn't come down.

Ideas?

What kind of fuel mileage do you get in the driveway?

Well since I don't seem to notice any drop in fuel I think it's really good, maybe I'm on to something!

Obviously the unwanted continunitititee is coming from somewhere.  What kind of speedo do you have.?  Where is the sendor physically located?  Crankshaft?  Alternatorator?  Front wheel?  A very long flex mechanical cable running all the way back to the tranny?  Dirt/rust/gunk between the sendor and rotating whatever?  Personally I think it is kinda neat that your can do "Warp Factor Eight" ...still sitting in your driveway!  He he he.  :) :) :)

Depending on the rear end ratio, I think that means that you can do 1253 MPH on the interstate.

Ahhh,

He would have to stop and refuel the bus every half hour or so.... I think! or maybe just coast the rest of the way...

Paladin, you have a ground wire problem on your speedometer

That's kind of what I was thinking but then not knowing about these things that supposedly have magnets......

Does this have magnets?

If your speedo is like our MC-8, you have a sensor on the left front wheel. The actual sensor is attached to the air brake frame. There will be several magnets or bolts attached to the edge of the brake drum. Our speedo goes to full scale when we turn on the master switch, then immediately returns to 0.  Jack
