Today I tried burning new veg oil in my diesel fired Proheat boiler. It was a failure. So after purging the system I made a 50/50 mixture veg oil/diesel and it worked great. I tried heating the oil but it was still too thick and decided to quit trying after melting a peanut butter jar in the microwave. What are the ill effects of mixing oil with diesel and does it still need heating? What would be the max mix ratio?
As a peanut butter lover, I'd be more worried about the melting point of the jar! ;D
Charlie,
To burn that type of oil you need to use the .85 nozzle and increase the air!

There's a group on Yahoo... altfuelfurnace. You have to get permission to join, but it's all about burning veggie oil and WMO in oil furnaces & boilers. Although not the same as your ProHeat, the principles are similar. It might be worth checking out.

Charley,
David is right. I belong to that board also. I am trying to put together a "Rookie's thread" for people who are just starting to do this. Steve has the right idea. But I'm not sure that is all there is to do it. He may know tho. But that does sound like about the right way of going about it.
The Alt furnace group seems to be guys who are doing this and us who would like the info. You have to read ALLOT in the archives to get yourself started. But then they tend to be allot of help. That is why I am trying to put together a "Rookie Thread" so us newbie's can get started easier.
Hope that helps,
Chaz
Charlie,
Like Chaz mentioned that alt furnace group has alot of ideas. I got that info that I forward to you earlier from that bunch.
There is on guy that, what appears to heat his house with a pro heat tied into a transmission cooler set in the duck work.
Looks like it would work.

During warm weather I have used 70% veggie to Diesel with no ill effects. The smell
definately changes. Don't know how it would work in a ProHeat...
But even at 50% you are saving 1/2 of your fuel cost.. Better than nothing...
Dave....
I had to laugh when I read Ron's post, because I totally misunderstood the subject line.
When he wrote that he was burning VO, my first thought was..."Damn, my Daddy would be kicking Ron's @$# all over town for wasting his favorite Canadian whiskey in a ProHeat!"
Then I understood he was referring to virgin Veggie Oil, and got a good laugh on myself.
Sorry Ron. :-[
