Title: PD4501 window rebuild
Post by: melkite on December 14, 2007, 12:12:55 PM
We are still working on our scenic.  Not all of our side windows are the same depth.  Some stick out farther from the side of the bus, and have a very thick rubber gasket holding the glass or lexan in.

My questions are:  do other GM bus windows fit this model?  Has anyone rebuilt their windows? We would like to save our upper level windows, and try to put double pane in the "thick" ones.

We already bought windows from Peninsula for the lower level, drivers etc.

thanks for your replies.

Hey, good to hear you are still making progress! Me too, just not the kind that others notice  ;)

The windows are specific to the 4501, The closest thing would be the 4104, but even they won't fit - lower level are too long & upper level too short. Not to mention the height difference due to the air vent at the bottom of the 4501 windows.

The ones that stick out farther were originally double pane, the others are single pane. A decent local glass company should be able to cut new glass if needed, just have to decide on what you are going to do about the tint. Greyhound used several colors, green, blue & bronze. I don't know when or why, but I have seen all 3 on one bus! I have also seen different tint colors on the inner & outter glass in the same slider panel. & one single & one double slider in the same frame. Lots of weird things have happened to these coaches in the last 50 years.

If you want all frames to match, you should be able to find more. I've got some extras, but I don't know if they are thick or thin.

I would imagine a good glass company can cut & set the double glass with some sort of epoxy (or silicone?) into your frames.

Peninsula may be an option also if the original glass is too problematic for your needs.

What did y'all do with the original glass you've already replaced? Those parts may be of value to some other 4501 owners.
