Hello For the gurus of motors ..I am changing the Detroit to the Cummins and I wonder what I need for antifreeze for the Cummmins ?
The Cummins is of course a four stroke but that should not matter with this topic. I used low or no silicate antifreeze (with the 8V71) that I received from a trucking company family buddy who is gone now.. I checked it with Litmus and It is Good but I wonder if after a number of years it would be good to convert to something new but what is new?
The Cummins Dealer has a big long technical speal which is good but very pricy. I wonder what trucking fleets do?; Any ideas? This engine has the filter that has the SCA stufff in it so I probably need to research that and fill accordingly; but any helpful info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike
Happy bussin..
And to all I hope your holidays are Merry and your stockings have something you need for your bus...
A good heavy-duty ELC will work. Fleetrite is good. CAT ELC, Delo ELC, Rotella ELC, Mobil 1 ELC, Texaco ELC, Prestone Heavy Duty ELC, Zerex Extreme HD ELC, or any other heavy-duty ELC will work and be good choices too.
The ELC types are the ones that, will not require SCA additive .
(corrosion and cavitation protection)
Delo/Texaco ELC
Shell Rotella ELC

International Dealer for the Fleetrite ELC
Cat Dealer for the CAT ELC
Most auto stores can get the Prestone Heavy Duty ELC, Zerex Extreme Heavy Duty, Mobil 1 ELC, or the Peak products.
