Title: 4104 Thermostat Needed
Post by: gus on December 05, 2007, 05:16:40 PM

Where can I find the by-pass thermostat, p/n 2269269, for my 4104 w/671?

New ones are not available anymore but a good used one would work.

Gus,

Call Powerline Components, 877-885-4724

http://www.powerlinecomponents.com/catalog/page.html?showpage=136&section=1&hiliteline=33

The part number is obsolete, but there are replacements for it.

IHTH

Dallas,

Thanks, I'll give them a try. I'm not optimistic though.

Doug,

The line it is on (line 33) is highlighted in red.
It's opening Temp of 183°

Dallas not what the man is looking for.

from the 04 maint manual

Water Bypass thermostat is reverse acting and is held open at temps below 170  forcing engine coolant through the heating system.  As temps go up this bypass shuts.

this was done so the passengers would get heat as soon as possible

not bright enough to copy and paste the photo or the text from the manual at www.pd4104.com

I was under the impression he asked for p/n 2269269 which is a 170° - 183° thermostat inside the rear end of the housing.

P/N 5186383 is the 173° thermostat which also is opening temp.

the description in the parts book is not  written  very well.

the thermostat is a closing thermostat...not an opening thermostat  this is clear in the description of the system in the maint manual.

It is an obsolete part and may have been 4104 specific.....I think the thermostat housing is also 04 only (may have been used  on earlier 6-71 powered Gm coaches.

Here, Doug, I turned it into a Jpg image. Sometimes Acrobat is a real PITA to work with.

IT looks to me since the thermostats are pointed opposite directions and the bypass thermostat (Rearmost) is the one that opens to the passengers, that they would both be opening temperatures as listed in the PCI website. The 173° thermostat would open before the main cooling thermostat since that stat is 180°.

did you read the text in the Maint manual describing how it works.

That is indeed how it works....the one is reverse operation....closes when hot.

OH OH I KNOW

One is opening and the other one is closing ..... the stats are not available any longer anywhere period

this is so the passengers can feel the heat first sooo to speak

john rigby in texas has a photo of a  reproduction he made maybe he will chime in here

hope this helps
