Sad News
With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, It is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.
Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.
Shut up. You know it's funny.
Ed,
You know, you are a very, very sick individual!
I love it.
Now I'll wake up at 02:00 snickering.

Ed, I enjoy the "sick" humor. Much needed today and from a fellow busnut, even better! 8)
You been reading too much of The Far Side.
That was a good one from many years ago, but after reading your post, I went to my wife and told her that Larry LaPrise had died. She got this quizzicle look on her face, not recognizing the name, so I said, "he was the inventer of The Hokey Pokey." She said, "Awww". I then said, "Yeah, they had a little problem gettin him in the coffin... they put his left leg in and, well, you know the rest." She knew she'd been had!
I live for moments like that! :D

The real sad news is that Larry LaPrise is the only one that really knows if

Actually, it's old news (1996), but still a very important event of great consequence. See http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2005/05/23/bethcolm.htm for details.

Actually the original poem is purported to be from one William Shakespeare of early English history:
Who knew
The Hokey Poke
O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the Poke -- banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.
W. Shakespeare
