I put this in Jacks New Ride thread but no response. So I thought I would give it a life of it's own.
Has anyone seen the movie "A Walk in the Clouds"? There is a bus in there and I was wanting to know if anyone could tell me what it is. I think it might be a Brill, but I'm not that up on old bus's.
A buddy of mine started his own winery because of the movie (seriously!!) and he wants stuff like what is in it. I already got him a couple trucks, but if we know what kind of bus that is, if one comes around, he might be tempted to get it.
By the way, it's a "pretty good" flick. :-\ It's a "chick flick" but it's ok. The end is kinda hookie.
But if ya know the kind and/or year or anything, I'd appreciate it! I could maybe get another busnut buddy around here. ;D Hate to ruin a good guy like that, but "infatuation loves company"!! :D :D
Addicting others,
Chaz
Hi Chaz,
i seen it years ago and havn't given it a second thought until you mentioned it...
A Walk In The Clouds(1995)
From director Alfonso Arau ("Like Water for Chocolate") comes this lush, romantic drama. Keanu Reeves stars as a newly-returned WWII soldier who agrees to help a woman he befriends on a bus by posing as her husband and meeting her family at their Napa Valley vineyard. As the ruse continues, Reeves falls in love with his "wife" and sets out to prove his worth to her father. Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, Giancarlo Giannini, Anthony Quinn co-star. 102 min.
Nick-
Any ideas Nick??? I would guess maybe someone needs to see it now who would know. I sure don't. I did google it, but couldn't find anything.
It's not a big deal. Just thought someone might know. It does have a bus in it in case one of the "nuts" out there has to watch a chick flick with the little lady. ;) ;D

EXCELLENT!!!!
Thanx Ednj!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW!!! Lets see who can tell what kind of bus this is from the small clips they show! The guy I bought my bus from had 2 bus's that had rear windows like that in the back, but they had a big round..... uh........ something (maybe a stop light, I don't remember) in the middle just below them. I can't swear to it, but they might have been Flxibles. They were rough, but one could be restored I'm pretty sure. I thought they were pretty cool, especially the "butt".
Whataya say??!!! Anyone able to tell the kind and year of this bus??
Thanx again Ednj!!!!

I'm going to say early PD 4101-4103 on the exterior shot of chace a 37 series...interior is more likey a old look suburban....
Reasoning. looks to be smaller windows on the outside shot.
Exterior ID based on Fluting, rear bumper and very ID able entry door shape
Defintley not a flx or a Brill
I'm going to go with an early Crown. The double humped bumper matches the Crowns. The GMs would have all had fluted bumpers with more ridges. Also, the rear windows on the 4101-3s are too large as compared to the bus in the video.
I see Crown's out here all the time since most of the schools still use them. They really haven't changed all that much in the last 60 years. The picture below shows the Crown bumpers.
have not seen many crowns with sedan doors...but there were some
3703's had the split bumper
however I do agree that rear bumper looks suspiciously like a crown bumper......also noted that the shades are down on the inside of the bus.....which makes me believe the bus was not moving or perhaps couldn't move
also noted no rear engine doors....so exterior I would now say Crown, I have never sean the inside of a Crown bus that wasn't a schoolie so can't Confirm that the inside is a crown or not
Songman, Check out the window size from the inside shots......I would say non crown interior shots based on that
I agree. It looks like they used something different for the interior shots. The rear glass does look big.
Chaz,
The big round thing in the back you mentioned is called a "Target" light.
Doug,
I doubt that was a 4101, those had the boat tail rear end like a 3751.
Probably not a 4102 or 4103 either since those have a different type of luggage rack, the rear windows are too small, and the engine compartment lid is wrong. However, since it's not that old a movie, it could be a make over.
Dale,
It's not a Crown, the curve on the rear windows is wrong and the side windows are too high. I do agree that the bumper looks like a Crown bumper though.
My opinion, for what it's worth, which isn't much would be that it's a modified PD4151, my reasoning is as stated above about the small rear windows, non boat tail, luggage racks and..... if you stop the film just before the suitcase hits the floor, you'll see a Santa Fe railroad logo in the rubber floor.
Edit: it's not a 4151 either... They had a boat tail and a target light and the rear windows were upside down compared to other GMC's
Dallas
Dallas,
Just before the suitcase hits the floor, I think they are on a train. There is certainly too much room there for them to be on an old model bus. It has been a long time since I have seen the movie so I am not sure though. But I do love this movie.. even though it is a chick flick. No surprise though. French Kiss is just about my favorite movie of all time.
Chaz,
You could try IMCDB – Internet Movie Cars Database. Not sure if you will find it in there yet, but it is a very big data base that is growing all of the time. Cool site if you are any kind of motor head. Here is link to the thread:

Laryn
Gotta be a crown....no engine doors on the back of the bus or transmission door on the back curb side......so Not a GM transverse mounted model.
could be a couple of different small coach builders but most likely a crown based on the mid engine config and bumper
inside I would say is an old look Suburban
I wonder if it is some sort of hybrid cobbled up for the movie?
Here is a link for different GM buses to look through:

I think your right,
The aisle isn't a drop center.
I checked the IMCDB site and it had no listing

I'll get my master parts book out tomorrow and see if there is anything that comes close

I see the Bus Nuts are in full Hunting outfits...... ;D ;D
I'm sure this creature will be captured fast!
Nick-
backing up the crown vote...check the roof vents
http://www.crownbus.com/crownbus/carson1.jpg
have to keep in mind, if this wasn't a schoolie, then the rear windows were not likely emergency escape windows thus size might not be the same as the schoolie.
Crown did have a small seated coach market particularly in the LA basin
This is good!! Your right Nick, this hunting excursion will be successful. ;D ;D It's amazing what little details some of you guys know about all these old bus's. Very cool to listen to.
Thanx guys!
Chaz
The movie is hazy, but I do know that PD 4101 had the same rear windows as old lokk transits and suburbans.
Looking at the side shot of the bus from the rear, you can see a minimal bay door and you can also see the fuel door just in front of the drive axle, behind the bay door.
I have to admit that it sure looks to be a Crown intercity, and after reading the Crown history from the link that Doug put up, I believe it is one of the rare Intercity rear engine models.
Crown had a long history of trying different approaches to building buses, and that would fit right in with their vision.
Dallas
There are some full shots of the bus in the movie. I think both front and side if I remember right. I imagine that would help if you could see that (?).
I'm not sure how i could post that, but maybe somebody could help.
Chaz
Here's a shot of a Crown Intercity coach, not quite the same, but you can see the heritage in the lines.
The Artic I am also posting is a shot of a Kaiser 63 passenger bus. Not related to this discussion, but I had to show it since I was looking for shots of Crown Intercity coaches when I found it!
Crown Dallas posted is a Crown Super COach ( Three axle.)
Bus in the movie is a 35 foot two axle and not a super coach ( which had GM style side windows.)
However Crown built non schoolies based on the schoolie chassis. I looked several times at the clip and might get around to renting the movie this week.......but I saw no evidence of rear engine doors...the door on the side looks tro be midship and would correspond with the mid engine cummins or DD arangement
One site that I read on last night said that late model Crowns have the taillights on the outboard corners while older Crowns have them in the 'rear trunk doors'. That is how the movie bus looks to be in my opinion. Rear trunk doors would rule out rear engine doors.
While this movie is not listed, this is a good site for these questions.

I gotta wonder why they wouldn't have this movie on their site?? I would think that since the premise of the movie is that they met on a bus, and the fact that there is several shots of it, they would have it. Odd. But it makes for good trivia I guess. ;)
Ok, now, where can I get that Kaiser??!??!??! ;D ;D ;D Just kidding. But since that is my last name, it would be kinda cool. ;) (I'd still like to have a '54 Kaiser Darrin or a '53 "Lady K", but right now, 10 vehicles is enough. I have to admit, there wasn't many good looking Kaiser VEHICLES made. )
The saga continues,

I think it is a 1947 Beck. It has a front mounted 6 cy International black diamond gas engine

It's always nice to find a wierd little site like that - have to say though, I immediately looked up the film 'The Italian Job', which famously and dramatically features a Bedford VAL coach in the story, and that wasn't listed either

Red,
i couldn't find anything on a '47 Beck.
Jeremy,
That's interesting with 4 steer wheels.

Yeah, it's a cool bus. I am especially partial to Bedfords though, for obvious reasons

Quick stop and my Dad's Bus history Archive/Library....turned up a postcard clearly showing the rear 3/4 view of a 35 foot Crown Coach with the exact same flutting, lear light setup, license plate recesses etc.
I think this has saved me from watching a Girly Movie

The Italian Job is listed check Flims 'Im-Iz'
Woo -Hoo!
And Doug Wins the prize.
Please send in a check for $2500 as a processing fee and we will mail your winnings out to you promptly!
;D
I will get my certified check from the National Bank of Zambia out to you directly
So why is it that most bus photos have to include the headlights? It's the rear end that most people see the most and remember best on the road.
Can I at least get a dinner out of someone?!? I identified it as a Crown! haha. That has to be worth something. :D
if you split the processing fee you can have half of the winnings...LOL
most vehicles photos are taken from the front.......generally the only time rear photos are purposefully taken is for modeling purposes....
Where do I need to enter my bank routing and account numbers? ;)
Hay Songman,
Here is the account # to send your wire transfur.
1667453-777561 The side bank of switzerland... Let me know when it is complete and I will fly there and pick up your winnings personaly

Ok, it's a fair cop - but I've checked again and nothing comes up when you put 'Italian' into their search box (except loads of adverts for language schools)
