Title: Prevost owners, air operated entrance door?
Post by: scanzel on November 20, 2007, 12:01:14 PM
On my Prevost and probably other buses the front door is air operated when accessing from the outside or using the handle fron the inside which activated the air release. When camping the bus usually looses air after a few days so the door won't stay shut or locked. How have you guys out there solved your door access problem besides cutting the jam and installing a latch assembly. And if you did install at latch what kind was used and how hard was it to install. I was thinking of installing a small air compressor to give me air just for the door while camping and then use bus air while trveling. Thoughts or Suggestions appreciated. :o

scanzel...Sorry I do not have a Prevost, but on my ex-schoolie Crown the air stays up for about a week.  But then again, I am not using air to operate the air door.  It has a valve in the dash that lets you turn off the door air.  Does your Prevost have the same thing?   I bet it just may.  Provosts are sooss cool.

Anyway, an auxillary small electic air compressor makes a lot of sense and has been discussed much on this excellent board.  Now we have another good reason to have one--to operate our front air doors.  My brother rigged a remote valve on my door and it is wired thru the keyring buggler alarm.

When the door air is valved open, I can open/close the front door at a reasonable remote distance using the little black plastic remote on my keyring.  Very cool when you wish to act cool and make a good impression.  But....using it all the time does drop the Crowns air pressure.

Eventually the plan for me is to have the required (not optional) auxillary air compressor.  Not only are they handy to have, now we have the capability of not having to anger all our close neighbors early in the morning airing up the coach---plus we can sneak off not paying the rent.  Just kidding!!  :) :) :)

I removed all the air lock and the inside crank (door closer) and installed a Nader lock and outside door handle off a Kenworth Truck out of a wrecking yard.

I have an 85 Prevost and I replaced the plunger with a 24 volt key switch. I also rerouted the air line to a compressor I have mounted in the rear.Works great. I just replaced the switch after 4 years,so If anyone needs one let me know.
