I went to pick up some motor oil ( CF-2 ).
But what they had is : CF MTU Type 2 ).
Is that the same as CF-2 ??
I can get it in straight 40 weight, but I'm not familar with the "MTU Type 2" info.
Thanks for any help.
Frank
Frank simple terms means that it flows good in cold weather for less engine wear on cold startups same oil as cf-2.forgot to tell you its recommend for MTU engines also
Thanks for the info.
I just could not find a defination for those terms.
The oil is: Mobil Delvac #1640 , CF MTU-Type 2 , 40 weight
I'm glad it will work in the 6V92 because the local lube distrubitor has and can get this oil.
I went to the Mobil site and didn't find the defination.
Thanks
Frank, before you and I get hammered and someone reads the old spec on the 1600 oil it had a ash content of 1.4 but not any longer less than 1% same 40w oil as DD dealers sell with the DD label
Chevron Delo 100 40 weight was the oil that was designed for the 2 stroker Detroits. That's what I use, perhaps it would be a good idea to keep with what works and not guess on another oil? Good Luck, TomC
Delvac is DDA's private lable brand name. IIRC, the straight 40wt is the same as Exxon/Mobile XD-3 Monograde, which meets DDA's specs for the two-strokes.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
Russ,Delvac is a Mobil trade name not DD FWIW always has been
Where does Rotella 40wt stack up with the rest for detroits?
Cody, the ash content is higher than recommended.
Give me a little bit, I'll get that web-site info to you that explains ash content and the different oils.
Jack
Cody, your Rotella T 40 is fine its under the spec .97 ash for Rotella. DD spec are under 1%
OK guys
I didn't like that the distrubitor doesn't know his elbow from a hole in the ground.
I went to Phillips "Super HD II , 40wt, the distrubitor is very good and knows his stuff.
It actually has CF-2 on the label, and lists DD 2 strokes.
The Phillips dealer says he always has a good supply fo this oil , so ther is where I'm going.
I got 18 one gallon jugs for less than three 5 gallon pails of the other oil.
I AM HAPPY. ;D
Thanks for your help.
Frank
Carry extra as you can't find the CF-2 40# on the road anymore. We had a leaky injector this summer and limped it home with 2 oil changes and Lucas. From Cali to Denver not one truck stop had the 40#. Many of the old repair shops have some, so I've been told. It's getting hard to find.
Don & Sheila
I've tried a couple of jugs of Walmart Tech 2000 CF-2 40 weight, but couldn't find any ash content on the labels. (I don't know if this is available in the US, but I've found it in every Walmart I've been to in Canada). Does anyone know what the ash content of this oil is?
I think I paid $8 and change for the 4 liter jug; the 20 liter pail is priced around $35, so this might not be a bad option if it's a suitable oil.

Delo 100 was not the original DD spec oil.
RPM Delo was the original until new formulations in the 70's replaced it with Delo 100.
FWIW
Dallas finally some one old enough to remember the oil for DD before Delo 100 hit the market for the 149 series in the mid 60s and now i read where RPM can be used again for two strokes. sorry about the age comment but i can remember #1 fuel at truck stops
I also have purchased 40 weight oil at WalMart (CF-2 on the label).
I would also be interested to know if this is bad for the DD?
Lyndon, and Stromclould if the oil has the cf-2 rating it ok because its packaged by Warren Labs in Omaha NE and made by Citgo got this info from Walmart.I been following this oil topic on the BNO board between RJ and luvrbus and they both had some real good info.but i would not just put any kind of oil in an engine without knowing the facts its your engine and the rebuild is going to be on you.FWIW they keep a MDS on file for their products in each store thats the law in the USA,and if you are confused now wait till 2010 when they change the rating again on oils
To Cody and makemineatwostroke.
I was wrong about the ash content in the Rotella T 40W. Sorry for steering you wrong on that.
Here is a very good web-site about the ash content in the two stroke Detroits.
http://www.tejascoach.com/ddcoil.html
And I had the folks at O'Rielly's Auto Parts order my Delo 100. I had to give them the codes referenced in the tejascoach site. You buy it by the case of 6 gallons.

what part of texas are you in. we have a supplier in tyler texas . which still carries the straight 40 oil. in one gallon and 55 gallon barrels. thanks j.t.
Hey J.T.
I'm in Kerrville ( not quite a year yet ).
There are quite a few lube oil suppliers around here but CF-2 was hard, for me, to find.
Some suppliers ( like Napa ) said "all that oil is the same just the labels are different".
Some of the lube oil houses tried hard to push me to Delo 400 either multi or 40 wt.
They were only tring to sell what they had, but handing out bad info along the way.
But I blame them for not knowing their business products.
But now I know where to go to find it and knowelgable people also.
It doesn't take much to make me happy.
Getting the supplies together for our winter trip to Mexico.
I carry a few oil and fuel filters and a little more than one oil change with us in the bays.
Thanks for all your help guys.

Chevron's site with the Product Data Sheets is back online today. Go to:
http://www.chevrondelo.com/
In the lower LH corner, select the region you want, then click "Go". This brings up another page with all the various Delo products on it. Each is a .pdf file, so you can print it out, if you wish.
Also, if obtaining Texaco is easier for some folk, their Ursa Super Duty and Extra Duty single weights meet DDA's two-stroke specs. Extra Duty's PDS sheets show specs identical to Delo 100, which makes sense - Texaco's owned by Chevron now. Here's a link to the Ursa site:
