Post by: muddog16 on November 19, 2007, 01:44:15 PM

The photo's are at my site posted at the bottom!  Be kind I've worked my fat butt to the bone! I'm keeping track of how much Sika I use! and will have it available for anyone else that needs the information!

Pat,
I just checked and my previous reply to your thread is gone some place in space I guess.  You have done a great job on your bus, very professional and just nice to look at over and over.  Thanks for sharing, see you at a bus rally one day soon.
Gary

Oh I've never forgotten about you, Pat. You are up there in the rarefied air of the legends.

I've had mine for four years, too, but it don't look like that?! How come?! :)

I hope you're planning on a run to the corner store before fuel is $10/gal!

You continue to be an inspiration.

Pat,

Its allways a pleasure checking on your progress and seeing (steeling) some new ideals.  Looking good buddy.   I'll be phoning you soon about working with the silka.  I like the trim.  Just curious to see if it will just be a clamp or if it becomes an integral part of the bus.            Looks supper!!! ......Steve...

Ok Pat I went back for another tour and saw that you are using the trim as trim and not just a clamp.  Looks good, can I steel that one too...lol....  You and Gary are going to have to stop on your busses and go on a world tour (on foot) so I can catch up....lol....Keep up the good work....

Talk at cha soon .....Steve....

Thanks for the great comments!  Steve, the Sika is coming right along, the part I dislike the most is removing the paint on the Chassis down to bear metal!  After i remove the paint i use the cleaner until the rag comes up clean then a final wipe in one direction.  After the cleaner flashes off which takes about 10 minutes, i paint the cleaned sections with the primer and again let it dry which usually takes about 30 minutes.  Once the primer is dry I use the adhesive on the chassis and push the body section on then clamp it down with wood and clamps!  The wood prevents me from warping the body panels.  On the top sections which on a LeMirage are curved I use 2" ratchet cargo straps that are 25' long.  At the top I use rivets to hold it in place along with the adhesive, this also to keep the top from sliding down when i tighten the straps down.  I'm keeping the tent heated to around 75 degrees, while i'm putting panels on, and I keep it running for about 2 hours after I'm finished, it helps cure the adhesive and also expands the metal to allow for minimizing thermal expansion later!  It took me about 2 weeks to finish the passenger side, my son helped with the top sections they are rather large! I started at the rear of the bus and worked my way forward, the top curved sections overlap about 3".  I failed to mention that I also clean and prime the back side of each panel where the chassis sections will be fastened!  And one more thing its only been 3 years that I've been working on the bus........it just seems like 4!
