A person would basically have to look for pull thru campsites only.

And I didn't laugh.

I remember seeing it on ebay over a year ago. I guess they are still trying to unload the thing LOL.

With the starting bid as high as it is I'm not surprised.  The location probably doesn't help either.

Could you imagine what the shipping is from Germany?

It's only a ferry ride from here...but the price they are asking is completely out of line for the bus underneath all that paint - and I can't imagine many people wanting the paint either.

As it happens I live on the edge of Sherwood Forest, where the real Robin Hood lived.

Just out of curiosity (in case I win the lottery)...  Does anyone know how much it would cost to ship a 40' bus across the Atlantic?

We use carex (www.carex.com) and the cost for the motorhome was $4,615 and car hauler $1,485. Florida to UK.

Then you must factor in the marine insurance at either 1.5% of the bus value for All Risk or .75% for Total Loss. All Risk covers any damage, while Total Loss covers only if the ship goes down.

I have heard from others that shipping from Texas or Louisiana may be cheaper because of the port charges.

We are away to shake down the coach and trailer at the end of this week. Take care, Robert

I've looked into costs for shipping cars from the US to the UK several times - with the dollar the way it is Yank stuff just gets cheaper and cheaper for us. Basically for something the size of a van or SUV the cost can be as low as £900 ($1800ish) for a Ro-Ro ferry, or £1500 in a container (by which I assume is meant a 25' container, or possibly sharing a 40' container). Problem is that you wouldn't get a 40' bus in a 40' container, so it would have to go as deck cargo, which I assume costs more because of the special loading and unloading (basically the bus would be trapped down to a 'skid', which is like the base of a container and is hauled about by the same cranes that handle the containers - but without the protective box around it the possibility of damaging the bus in loading and during the voyage itself must be quite high, so I assume it's a more involved job for the shipping line, which they would charge a premium for).

There are various websites out there that will give you a quote online if you tell them the dimensions etc - but - for me at least the killer is not the shipping charges so much as the import duties, which can suddenly make things very expensive indeed. The procedure for registering a vehicle from overseas can be quite complex as well - as well as all the paperwork the the EU at least also requires the lighting and tyres and various other things on the vehicle to be changed as nine times out of ten the OEM US stuff is not legal for use on our roads.

When I was in Asia, I had too much time on my hands. I looked into shipping the bus to Thailand. The guesstimate quote was about $5000 US.
The stickler to this is the duty as Jeremy mentioned. The duty would be 100% of thier appraised value. Not what you paid for it, not what you have in it but what they say it is worth!!!! You cannot get this appraisel in advance, you get it when it gets there.
