Post by: zubzub on October 30, 2007, 02:56:39 PM
I asked the Napa guy and while helpful he knew/could find almost nothing.  So napa (or other) part #s for primary, secondary fuel, (none screw on), and oil filter.  for a 671 in a 4104?  I think thats it for now....thanks Patrick.

The primary is probably a stack of copper washers that you take apart and clean.

The secondary is Napa #3064
Baldwin # PF804
Wix #33064
Fleetguard #FF123
Luberfiner #L14F

Oil Filter
Napa #1013
Napa #1133
Wix  #51013
Wix #51133
Fleetguard #LF556
Luberfiner #LP2327

Thank you, very helpful and complete, couldn't ask for more.  Patrick.
I figured the primary was cleanable but I wanted to make sure.

FWIW, All NAPA filters are made by Wix, in my opinion a premium filter.  Used them for years in the Service business of diesel engines and continue to use them today for my 8V71. IMHO you can't buy better.

So would all these numbers be the same for an 8v71?

Do not take apart the very thin brass stacked disks in the primary fuel filter, just spray the stack with carb cleaner or dunk it in a good CLEAN solvent. I use the spray carb cleaner because it is so easy and quick. Try to hold the disks together while cleaning. These disks are very fragile and easy to bend and they then have to be removed. Don't ask me how I became an expert on this filter?

This is an excellent filter and I don't recommend changing it to a spin-on because it is so easy to get to and clean. You will need a small amount of diesel to refill it when clean or you will lose your prime to the fuel pump. This filter also has a check valve in the inlet line to prevent fuel drain back to the tank.

I don't remember what the original secondary fuel filter looks like because my 4104 was converted to a spin-on by the PO.

The Wix oil filter # for my 4104/671 is 51133 which, as I remember is almost the same as the Fram #. I just changed it a week ago and still have the bill here in front of me.

Dax,

I think the 8V71 uses the same filter but can't remember for sure.

Gus is right, I checked the numbers against a couple of other places and the difference is 1/4" in height.

I've been using the Napa #1013 for years as that's what the original GMC number crosses to in the cross reference charts.

since the filter is spring loaded in the cannister, it won't make much difference, but having a longer filter just adds that much more filtering capacity.

I added those numbers to the list I posted below.
