Hi,all:

I'm looking for a diesel-fired hydronic heating system for the Papabus...I can find some information about the 'Eberspacher D4 WS' capable of 4000watts of heat (doesn't sound like enough) and the 'Proheat XL900' or 'X45' at up to 45,000btu (15kW?).

What is everyone using for their heating systems? Do you like it or would you change it?

I just found out today that my Hurricane 45XL has 61k BTU heating capacity. 47k from diesel and 14k more from 120V. I finally found some literature online to tell me what I had.

My PO installed a Webasto 2010 ( I believe) with a circulator motor. This is in the 40K btu range and does a wonderful job. I have two coils with fans, and two toe kick units. Three coils/fans are installed in the bays also. Never have I run out of heat, and that early morning startup is easy with a warm block.

I have an aquahot (45K) in my Prevost so can't comment on the Proheat. But there is a 45K Proheat on eBay right now for a buy it now of $899 and another one at regular bid of $250. Hope that helps

I don't have my Proheat X45 12 volt up and running yet but Nimco Bus in New Jersey had them earlier this year. I bought two for $650 and I picked them up. The guy on ebay is in New Jersey so maybe he bought them all and is reselling them after testing. I looked at the Aquahot but too expensive for me.

I tried NIMCO, they had some last year but not now. That's why I bought mine, Proeheat X45, on the e place, $425 plus shipping. I have not started installing it yet, figuring out the best place to plumb and wire everything will take some time. It looks like it will do the job. I will plumb it in to three heat exchangers, the existing one in the front, one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom.
I'm cheap that's why I searched for over one year to find the best buy.  ;D

You don't sound cheap to me but you do seem a bit resourcefull.  What "exchangers" are you going to use?  Will all of that still work off of the engine coolant circuit?  Can you preheat the engine?  How about hot water?  Wet bay?

I had thought of plumbing the exhaust thru my wet bay and using that heat for my tanks.  If the ex. is forced air I could make a long run in there to get the heat out before venting it.  I figure the furnace won't be running full tilt unless it is cold outside and the bay needs it.  What are your thoughts?

These are my plans so far. Tie the Proheat X45 into the engine coolant, therefore that will tie into the heat exchanger up front, one in the bedroom and bathroom. Have considered using toekicks, don't know much about them just yet. The front heat exchanger is one used in school buses, (from e place also) has two squirrel cage fans for defrost and two for cabin heat. I have heard the Proheat will work for hot water, have not found out how to do that yet. Still in the research faze. Not in a big hurry to install it as I have put our coach down for the winter. Removed the front windshields today and preparing for a bit of rust repair work, YUK! :'(

After that yukky work is done hopefully I will have all the parts necessary to install the Proheat. One more thing, I still am undecided on the location for it. So upward and onward.

When all is said and done it should keep us toasty when we need it.

I bought it last year, was listed under "heat exchanger" on e bay (I think), could have been the rv section also. I have been searching for another one, not any listings yet. The fellow I bought it from does not have any either. You can do a google search under school buses and maybe come up with one in their heater section.

 John,   I bought an exchanger from jc whitney in my old bus. It was a little pricey $180 but has a strong 3 speed motor. for my mc9 I purchaced the exchangers ($125 ea. +-)along with the themostats from Aquahot.They run on less than 1 volt (12volt source). I installed them, tied the system into the engine when building the inside. I have yet to purchase a heat unit.
   Unless someone has anything negative to say about the proheat, I may go that way. the Webasto 2010 heater that matches my setup is more than $2k. $2400 if I remember right.  Tomas

Estore has proheat for $180 to 900 for 45KBTU,  12 or 24 Volts.

I will try to go with those 125 dollar units you mentioned.
