Title: If we build it - will you come?
Post by: bobofthenorth on October 16, 2007, 09:29:34 PM
I think it was Cat that said - if you want to have a rally just go ahead and plan one.  Fools jump in and all that.  So I went ahead and got approval from SWMBO - in fact she is an enthusiastic participant in all of this.

So far all we have done is pick a date and start a webpage.  The date will be Queen Victoria's 189th birthday and the days surrounding that auspicious date.

The webpage is here: http://www.rjevans.org/VicDayRally/RallyIndex.html (http://www.rjevans.org/VicDayRally/RallyIndex.html)

Good Luck at your future rally Bob, I assure you that you will thoroughly enjoy your fruits of labor of arranging it with any problems that you feel may happen.  Believe me they won't.  Everyone attending will assist you in most anything that you plan to make it work, don't tense up.  Kyle's two rallies this year were both a success for his first venture into this and I assure you, as I write this that Kyle's Rallies will surely turn into one of the biggest functions for SC Busnuts and be for any one within traveling distance.

You can get information on tips from Jack & Paula Conrad, Dallas & Cat, Bruce Knee & Bill Glenn, Paul Lowery, Christy and now Kyle on what to think of as a beginner.  The rest will fall into place automatically.

Wish we could plan to attend, maybe we will as we sure love to have good times and meeting our big family. Good Luck again.

Gary

Bob,

Yes they will come!

Good Luck on planning for your future rally. It is a lot of work but worth the effort. Fun and fellowship with fellow busnuts is the best.

I was a bit scared when planning for TBR 2007. Wondering if there would be enough interest. What it boils down to is, it doesn't matter how many show up for the first one. It will grow in time.

These mini rally's are becoming popular and springing up all over the place.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Happy Trails,

Paul

Good for you!!   I am so glad to see you ready to jump in.  Remember, everything might not go smoothly, but. who cares.  Everyone WILL have fun.  Whether you have 2 bus nuts or 20, it will be fun.  Just don't try to overplan things, that way you can have fun also and won't be stressed out.  Cat

Prevost82: That can't be Southern Saskatchewan, there is a tree in one picture.

That is THE Saskatchewan tree....you can see it for many, many miles around....
I can almost see it from here (Southern Manitoba)  ;)

We hope to make it to your non-rally.

Hey BoB
Great Idea Count me in for two buses.  I'll bring the 47 MCI courier for a conversation piece. I can also give you a hand if needed.  In fact I can arrange for a donation of a 100 printed t shirts to give away proving that those that came drove 100 miles on flat road without seeing a tree. ;D

I think Bob's rally may be a little out of range for me!

No areas in particular I just like to see what others have done with their transit conversion.  There are not too many around and we deal with some different issues especially as fitting everything on the underside.  How far along have you gotten?

That's pretty cool, Bob! My wife is a Victorian freak! Her little side business is called Victorian Valhalla and she buys, sells, and collects Victorian items, mostly mourning jewelry. She'll get a kick out of seeing this.

I had to look up the year but every kid raised in the Commonwealth should know the rhyme:

The 24th of May is the Queen's birthday
If you don't give us a holiday
We'll all run away.

Geez, Bob,

You expect us Colonials to know stuff like that when the majority of us can't count to eleven reliably without taking off at least one shoe!

I have to admit, even though I like my trivia, and Royal trivia at that, I had forgotten the date. My Grandmother would be appalled.

All I could think of was another song:

In 1814 we took a little trip,
Along with Andy Jackson down the mighty mississipp
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And fought the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

Cho.
Well, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles,
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit wouldn't go!
They ran so fast even hounds couldn't catch 'em,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Queen Victoria would never have let that debacle occur!

I'll have to go to wally world and see if Hallmark has a card for the 189th birthday.  Unfortunately now that I know the date we're booked for a gig that weekend, so we can't make it but we will observe a moment of silence during the night, (I'll hit the mute button on my wifes mic) lol.  Secretly I think Dallas is just trying to sneak up on the 2000 post mark lol.

Will Queen Vickie be there, I'd like to meet her.

May 24th will be too early, there will still be snow on the ground there.

Hey I did pass Queen Elizabeth on the road one day, I didn't know which car she was in so I waved at all of them.  Fall of '84 I believe, SR 68 on the north side of Lexington KY.

Pretty well 600 miles right on the nose - a good hard day's run or a leisurely 2 days.

That's on the list of things to add to the webpage but it won't likely happen for a week or so.  I'll also list some sights to see along the various byways you might take to get here.  Coming from Grand Forks, I'd give Winterpeg the slip, come through Carmen or somewhere near there.  Then I'd get on the Yellowhead Highway (TC 16) cuz its a pretty scenic trip and I'd stay on the Yellowhead to Elfros where I'd get on 35 and come straight north into Nipawin.  The other way to do it would be to come up through Riding Mountain Park in Manitoba and keep heading north pretty well as far as you want to - there's lots of opportunities to duck off to the west into Saskatchewan at Russel, Roblin, Swan River or Mafeking.  If you really wanted an adventure you could go as far north as Le Pas and then come back down to Nipawin from there but that would add a few miles.

I wish we could come, it is 1,826.20 miles for us. That's a long way from Texas, and it takes me two days to drive through it!

Looks like very nice country. I have never been there, someday we'll have to make the trip.

Skip,
Funny you should mention that #! That is exactly how many miles I drove Sunday night / Monday AM from Doswell, VA to Frankiln, TN & on home to UC (after dropping off passangers in Frankiln while I was still legal! LOL) 13.5 hrs! I really should have gotten a motel in Franklin, but who goes to a hotel at 6:30 AM when they ain't tired and only 170 miles from the house? But I'll be honest my butt was dragging when I got to the house! LOL! CAT told dad "Bryce musta been tired when he came in, he parked all crooked! AND HE NEVER PARKS CROOKED!" Boy it's great to have her on my side! LOL! I just wonder where she was about 20 somethin' yrs ago in my heavy drink'n days! LOL! Then she'd been say'n WOW look at that Bryce parked in the drive or street instead of in the yard against the house! LOL! (DARN GOOD THING I DIDN'T HAVE A BUS THEN! LOL! most of the time it was the only place I keep the bike from falling over while I fell off!) Whew, I tell ya I really don't know how I actually lived thru those days to tell about them! But ya know thay say "only the good die young!" So maybe I'll be here a while longer! LOL! ;D  BK  ;D

BK,

Ok you were under the 14 hr rule :)   How about the 60 hrs. in 7 days or 70 hrs in 8 days.
Good thing I'm considered RV, I've been known to go way to long. Seems I never stop when
I am within 3 hrs. of home. For the grace of God I have survived so far but I have the feeling
that as I get older pushing it is less bright than a burned out light bulb.

14 hr rule? I like that yeah, yeah I like that alot! And of course I was well under the 60 - 70 hr rules! I usually (except in certain crazy super swamped times) have no problem staying under the 60 -70 hr rules as we are usually only out 3-4 days a week! But there are times when we be gone long long times! Spring like late April thru June we are usually swamped! Which I got lots of trips on the books for then already!
;D  BK  ;D

14 hr rule yeah that's the ticket! oopps or would it be a ticket if I get caught? ! LOL!

BK,

Only if you goof up on your logs.

Side note:
Truck driver come into the way station and turns his log book in. The GVW guy looks at the driver
and says this looks nice now let me see your real logs. The truck driver goes back to his rig and
gets the other log book. Result: Ticket and Sleep time. The driver was so exhausted he wasn't thinking
  too quickly..true story.
