Title: Test post - trying as guest. (FF does this look OK?) Other comments?
Post by: Phil Lyons - as guest. on February 25, 2006, 09:25:04 AM
Hmmm.  Looks like I can set the board to have non-members post.  Well, I don't have a problem with trying this out to see whether we get slammed by spammers.  If we do get nailed with this settting, then I would have to pull this feature.  e.g., allowing guests to post.

How doess that sound?    Thoughts?  My goal is to be as flexible as I can with our board, without getting clobbered in the process.

Not sure if all features are available as guest (still learning) but I have added the ability to post and reply to posts.

Please give me feedback!!

Current MAK board has been literally destroyed 3 times this past week.  porn, insurance, travel, you  name it, we've been hit.  Cleanup & board reconstruction is extremely  time consuming,  I didn't realize they had wrapped porn throughout all the earlier threads.  All clean now, but current effort cannot be sustained against the sleaze out there.  Backups are running 2 times daily to be able to restore quickly whenever necessary.

Not looking for sympathy here - just conveying what is going on and why the changes.  Plus - some of the features are kind of cool.   ;D

I'm still working on some of the other requests, post order, archives, tree view, etc..

Best Regards,
Phil

Sentiment against guest ability?  LMK also.

Plus - test of reply by guest.

PERFECT.

In fact, real good, but the perfect is there to make a point.  Over 121 members who have signed up and given an email address.

Getting 120+ people to agree on something is real good, to agree on everything is impossible.  They should be willing to do simple work arounds.  We have an email that I post as ours but seldom if ever check.  Let the spam fly, it doesn't cost anything anyway.  That is a simple work around.  As an adult, I am responsible for pleasing me.  You don't need to do so!

In a perfect world the sidewalks would be paved with ...

We like it, switch us over and let everyone come on board as they wish.

Thanks - and welcome TomNPat,

Yes, I too have noticed all the support for registration.

This policy may change.  All calls to keep this non-registered seem to have stopped.  Overwhelming support for registration at this point.

Best Regards - welcome aboard!

Phil, one of the nice things about this new system is that if you start getting hit with spammers you could set the board up so that any posts from new people would have to be approved by the moderator. After you find out they are probably OK, then they could be taken off moderator status.
I can think of a few that should stay on permanent moderator status. LOL

Phil,

I don't understand why you would want to have nonmembers be able to post ???

The way I see it, I don't belive we would loose any of our bus friends!

If non members want to view all of our posts, No problem! If at that point they want to get inolved, well they will have to register!

It only makes sence! Why risk loosing valuable information that we need to keep for future use

If there is another reason that I am missing , Please let me know!

I am extremely new to this board but:

Registration, valid email address should be an extremely high priority.  Security is even higher.

Keep the board safe at all cost.

I haven't used the software but it would seem to have security features built in.

limit access to those who have not registered to one little itty bitty area or little or no importance, while registered members have access to the whole board.  On tazboard, using the same software, I have elite access which gives me access to an area of the board that most don't have.  Also the mods probably have access to yet another section of the board.

good luck in your decision making

I am thinking there should be more than one big section

I would prefer to see  separate sections

  specific brand of bus
general discussion regarless of type of bus
travel section on where to stay, what to see
engine section for any engine trouble
faq section for those questions that keep getting asked over and over again
general help section for problems people are having

Could go on for a while, but my thinking is............  organization of posts of similiar topics

Let's see why would anyone object to having a valid email and not be willing to register...... hmnnnnnnnnnn

I do not agree with the idea of having multiple areas. On some of the boards like that it seems I spend most of my time opening and closing topics. I would like to see a few specific areas such as user instructions, board netiquette and a section for photos so that we could see all the various conversions together in one place.

Richard - you do come up with lots of good ideas!   :)  An area for all member's busses.  That would be fun!

As far as one large posting area, I think that is a feature that most using MAK board like.  There are other very good boards which separate one topic from another.  MAK is all one big area.  There may wel l be some areas for board instruction & how-tos, though,...  orogle, please keep the ideas and posts coming!  We are glad you are here!

Happy Bussin'
