Title: GMC Final Vehicle Records
Post by: RJ on October 09, 2007, 08:39:46 AM
I received this email from the GMC Busnuts group on Yahoo, and thought those that frequent this BBS would be interested also:

Greetings, GM Bus Owners

The Final Vehicle Records are similar to the Window Stickers on new automobiles. They show the original purchaser, part numbers of major components, and any special options (called SL's) and instructions. For the engine and transmission, the individual serial numbers are also listed. Unfortunately, there are no photographic records maintained in the Final Vehicle Records, but the paint codes are usually shown.

If this information would be helpful to complete the file on your bus, the Ohio Museum of Transportation is asking for a donation of $25 to help defray the costs of our own classic bus collection. Your FVR will then be reproduced from the GM microfilm file on a modern reader/printer and mailed flat in a large envelope, and forwarded via first class mail.

You can also join the Ohio Museum of Transportation for one year at a cost of $25, and the Final Vehicle Record of your choice will be sent at no additional charge. If you would like to join OMOT, or just obtain the FVR, please confirm your mailing address and coach model/serial number, and send the information and payment to:

The Ohio Museum of Transportation
2347 Karendale Drive
Toledo, OH 43614-2106

Thanks for your interest in the Ohio Museum of Transportation and the Final Vehicle Record program.

Sincerely,

Mike Ondecker

It's my understanding that the microfilm files were donated to the museum by the estate of a long-time GMC Truck & Coach Field Service employee, along with some other items. Those of us in the bus hobby should be grateful that there are some folk who think this stuff is worth keeping.

My $25 is on it's way - what about yours?

FWIW & HTH. . .

Hi Russ, I sent mine awhile back.
Buy the way, Mike Ondecker contacted me early on in my search for the Scenicruiser and has been a HUGE help to me.
