After weeks of reading and posting questions, I have finally completed the hitch project. I am very happy with the results and even more delighted that the hitch is a Class V with 10,000 lbs of towing capacity. The local fabricator has offered us custom RV jobs ;D ;D
Anyways, thanks for all the input and ideas.

Grant, That's a Class A Job! ;)
Bet you're glad that project is complete. Nice planning too.
That is something I will have to consider down the road. We have a homemade hitch on our Eagle, not sure if it will meet my expectations or not. I have never used it. The PO had it installed when he bought the bus in Florida and pulled his pick up to Ohio.

Nice job Grant, I really like it. I rigged one to get me by, now I need to redo it more permanently. Thanks for sharing Tom
Like that rear bumper!
How's about a shot from underneath?
I am two sub-projects away from starting the hitch. Finally!
Congrats!
The hitch looks really nice. I'd like to see how you have it connected the rails farther forward. The reason I ask is that the places you have it bolted to are subject to lots of rust. Basically, they catch and hold water and dirt. I've seen a couple of pics of that area on MC-8's where those are rested out to the point that they won't support much of anything. Mine were that bad. If there's a way to attach the hitch to the rails underneath (a pic would be great!), I can see that the extra support would be good to have. Did you just eliminate the plate that went behind the original bumper? Thanks for posting.

I attached the forward braces to what appear to us to be skid rails. They are 1/2 inch thick stainless steel rail. We did think about rust during the entire project and you see we used POR-15 on all areas of the mounts, rails and of course the hitch. Here is a shot of the braces moving forward on both sides with a 4 inch gusset at the point of connection to the slip.
Thats a nice looking job and looks to be able to hold up to anything. I built mine to just bolt up to those skid rails and put it underneath the bumper. Jerry
