Title: Dumb question: actual bus length
Post by: Paladin on October 03, 2007, 07:38:35 PM
My bus is across town and I can't get to it and I'm trying to make a spot here at the house for it.
What is the actual total bumper to bumper length of an MC8? Is it an actual 40' or a little more or less?

( Thought I had something here that had those specs on it but can't find them)

If its a Jersey transit add 2 feet for the bumpers. If it's a regular MC8 40ft

I don't know for 100% fact! But when I was out at Setra North America HQ back in 2004 Denis Colverson their main used bus sales man told me that US buses such as MCI, Prevost, and several others that better understood US law than Setra did at first, actually built a 40'er 40' not counting the bumpers which meant a 40' MCI/etc (body) was actually 40.5'-41' and a 40' Setra (body) was 39.5' allowing for it to be just under 40' after the bumpers were measured! Now I'm only going on what we were told by a man who by everything else I learned from him that day seemed to know what the heck he was babbling about! He did say that when they came out with the S217 45'er they did like everyone else and went 45' on the body then added bumpers! Just what I been told! ;D  BK  ;D
