According to my MC8 idiot light I'm always empty no matter how much is in there. I'd like to put in a sender and gauge but I'm not really sure what to use, what have you guys used? I guess you can use that covered opening that's just above the filler hole if memory serves? Right??
I'm really like to make up a nice new set of gauges for the new dash later on but I'd really like a working fuel gauge for now, can I use a VDO or Autometer gauge? How do you calibrate?
Those VDO Cockpit Royale series gauges are really cool but no air pressure etc..

I really liked the look of these gauges you posted, I almost bought a set from the e place. Found a used set of Eagle gauges on there instead. I currently have a fuel gauge from ISSPRO, with sender. It works very well, and accurate also. I know it doesn't match my gauges, but at least I can see the needle drop. Pretty fast too! ;)
You might be able to find other gauges in that style in the Royale series, don't know for sure though.

I used the MCI parts, as I'm staying stock dashboard.
Yes, the sender bolts into that unused cover by the fuel filler on the end of the tank.
Slides right in.
Take a measurement of the plate location in relation to full fuel level, in relation to tank bottom and a good supplier should be able to supply a suitable set-up for you.

Usually there is a 5 bolt round cover on the top of the tank for a fuel gauge sender. I used the Isspro tube type sender and it works well. Good Luck, TomC
We installed an electronic (no moving parts) sender in our MC-8. I can't rememebr the name of the company, but they are in Merrit Island, FL. Maybe someone can chime in with the company name. We installed the sender where the 5 screw plate is on the tank. NOTE: the spacing on the 5 screws holes is not symetrical! Only fits one way. Make sure the sender is set up to match the screw holes. I think you would be much happier with a speedo that is calibrated from 0 to 80.

Centroid Products is the name of the company in Florida. My Centroid sender never has worked quite right, but I never followed through with the instructions to check it that they sent. I doubt the sender is bad.
I bought the MCI sending unit from C&J Bus here in Mpls and hooked it up to the existing Stewart Warner gauge in my dash; it sure is nice to not have to "stick the tank" anymore. The sender that was in there was an after market unit and rusted solid.

I also used centroid. Got it a lot of years ago and have had no trouble with it. I also used a MCI gas gauge so it looks
like original equipment. The only problem I had was setting the "empty" adjustment. That was until I ran out of fuel.
Then the adjustment was easy.
Centroid senders have to be calibrated to your gauge or they will sell you a gauge that is matched to the sender. They will send you several forms to complete that gives them all the information they need to cailbrate the sender and make the sender the right length for you tank. We had our sender made so the bottom is about 2" off the bottom of the tank, insuring that the gauge says empty before the tank is. Jack
