hello from texas
i have an prevost le mirage , i left the road air in place, wife say's she is not going to freeze or
burn up in this bus as she did in the 4501 gmc. i have an aux air mounted in the rear to help the
carrier . i am thinking of some ways to move the evaporater to the dash area, if someone has gone
thru this please give me your imput. thanks j.t. laney
JT,
Are you wanting to move the existing evaporator in the rear?
Add another to the existing one?
Cliff
hello cliff
i have one in the rear of bus but its to big to mount in the dash, i was thinking about using the
orginal blower and adding a coil . i don't have any overhead cabinetts to hide one in, the compressor
is mounted on top of the aux gear box for the radiator fan.
i may have to modify the dash to acomadate the new coil and fan, thanks jt laney
JT,
You may be able to pick up a blower and coil from a SUV or van with rear air from a salvage yard.
They are small and should fit under the dash with no problem.
The rest is piping and the the usual evacuating and recharging.
You probably could leave the rear one in place and add the extra freon for the new one.
On the SUV/vans they use the same compressor with a switch that passes the gas through the rear evaporator on demand.

JT - look for a totaled Excursion/Expedition - great candidates - be sure and scavange the remote switches/t-stats - HTH
hello from tyler tx
thanks for input on front air. if the rear coil can be mounted in a vertical angle it may work.
i will also look in salvage yard for parts. thanks j.t.laney
So...now thqt you guys have worked this out, let's hear about the 4501 cooling that you used to have. Was factory bus air way overkill? I was thinking about fixing mine

the pd4501 139 was a 1954 scenicruiser which ran for greyhound for 20 years and converted to
a country music band bus and was run out of nashville for about 25 years . frenchy burke used it
on most of his tours.i wish the old bus could talk or may be best not to, i think it run a lot with
willy back in its younge years. it had a 15 kw diesel water cooled gen set when i bought it in 98 and
three top airs and road air was still in it, which i took out and later took the gen set out to make room
for my guitars and such, it takes a lot of room to carry 30 guitars . six banjos , dobros and tent and such.
sure miss the old dog, thanks j.t. laney
