They usually run $250 up to $400 so yours is a pretty good price.

johnjem, I seem to recall that the pump is repairable on the engine by installing a kit. Have you checked on this possibility, yet?

I haven't tried it myself, but I was surprised to learn that it was possible.

Depending on the age of your engine, it looks as though you might need to replace a cam gear because they changed the number of teeth during production. My reading of section 5 of the engine manual leads me to believe that seal or pump replacement might need to be done at the shop.

For what it's worth.

Mine was leaking, put a inexpensive kit in it 10 yrs ago no more problem, and the good part is you dont have to even remove the pump , you can put the kit in it on the engine, easy to do, id try that before i bought a new one, as best i remeber it took about a half hour to do, a new impeller and the seals . callthe dealer and try to get a kit.

hello from texas
my water pump started dripping one night in arkansas. i called several places and one road service. i could have had a mechanic come out to replace it. but price was in the 300 400 range.  after running the engine the nest day it quite leaking ,stop and it would leak again,. i decided to drive it back to tyler tx. and took the bus to my mechanic. he pulled off the front plate on the water pump and replaced the seal all for about 60.00 . still working god after a couple of years.  you can do the work your self. thanks jt.

yes i had already removed water pump due to the front case cover<the cover the water pump bolts to and front engine mounts to> to replace cover due to it had a crack in it <and i had the part already installed the new cover and wala craked again in the same spot i know oil only splashes in this cover so i am going to use some jb weld to seal this crack,so since the water pump was off i was going to replace it!

JohnJem,

Why are they cracking?  Mating surface uneven?  Gasket material not removed?  JB Weld is GREAT stuff.  I would seal it with the part installed as you might crack the Weld when you install it if it is cured as you did the new item.

2 cents

If it was me I would remove the cover and find out why both are cracking in the same location, there has to be a reason. I really think it would bug me if I didn't know what caused the cracking. There has to be an uneven surface somewhere. I think the bus gremlins will haunt you if you don't.  ;)

Just my 2 cents,

Paul

Lar,

Lay a bastard flat lile on the surface that the cover mates to and work the file.  You should see cleaning scratches where the file makes contact.  Move it around to cover all around the mating surface.  I may not be clear, the file is laid across the mating flange and makes contact on two points.  Then lay it along the flange and do the same thing.  If you have studs...remove them for the filing operation.  When you find the high spot (and you will!) you have to file it down flat with the rest of the flang.  A small patch of old gasket will be enuff to crack the cover.  Use rtv silicone with the gasket and goop up both sides.

Yes!   apply the JB to both sides and work it into the crack.  Pile it up on the outside to about 1/8 inch deep and 1/4 inch wide or more.  That stuff has sealed rads for me and they lasted years.  You have to put it on still soft and use the silicone and make that the final assembly and wait for everything to cure.

Way I'd do it, anyway.
