Title: Self contained GPS unit question
Post by: JackConrad on September 13, 2007, 04:18:57 PM
Paula & I had the opportunity to drive an H3-45 to Miami today to demo for a customer. This was a luxury entertainer coach. I must admit it was a real pleasure to drive. Paula said she really enjoyed the view from the higher seating. What a difference that S-60 and 6 speed auto makes. 65 MPH @ 1375 RPM.
This is the first time I have used a GPS other than the ones (MS Streets & Trips and  DeLorme) we have in our Laptop. This coach has the Pioneer GPS/CD/radio/XM thing in the dash. We used the GPS, but I have say I was not impressed with it. Only way to see SR 70 heading east from Arcadia was on the 1 mile scale, None of the towns were listed on the map (only the roads), and once in Pembroke Pines on the smallest scale, it still did not show all the streets in the residential area we went to. Maybe I did not have it set right?  or is this typical of the small self contained GPS units?  "Expiring minds want to know"  Jack

Hi Jack,

The Pioneer units have alot of options for the displays and I know that my Pioneer has what you said is missing.

On the bottom of my screen, in a ribbon, I have the option of having the town and county displayed and on the top in

a ribbon, I have the next street displayed. Did you notice weather the unit was a AVICN1, 2, or 3,. The 3 has alot of new features

that are mostly street related. The 3 also has icons for everything in the nature of rest areas, fuel, food, and traffic data.

If the 7"lcd screen is too small for you, I send my nav screen to my 30" Lcd in the front livingroom for all to view.

Thanks for the reply Nick.  I did not notice which model it was.  It was already turned on when I got to the bus. I did not mess with it during my pre-trip inspection and once moving, I don't like to fumble with new stuff while driving.  It worked great other than just not displaying what I am used to seeing. Next time, I will take time to play withit before getting on the road.  Jack
