Title: HT740 dipstick tube
Post by: compedgemarine on September 06, 2007, 07:08:00 PM
hopefully someone has or can direct me to a dipstick tube for an Allison HT740 for my Model 10 Eagle. a PO cut the tube and put in a section of rubber hose so now I am not sure if the tube length is the same and giving me the correct level on the stick. does anyone know if the tube is specific to an Eagle or of some one who would have one? I havent had any luck on a new one as this is a little older than most Allison dealers want to mess with
thanks
steve

thanks, I will give them a call tomorrow. with all the talk about under and/or over filling the trans it makes me a little nervous not knowing if the stick is right.

Steve, I would try USA parts for an Allison tube. 800-USA-7899 Ihave a pic in a book showing to oil level if this will help, for different pans also.  Tom Y

The manual for the transmission gives very direct info on how to mark the dip stick. Even if you buy all new parts it MAY not be correct. There are a bunch of different pans used on the 740 and yours may have been changed over the years. Spend you money on a manual instead of a new tube!

Hey busguy, I will probably get a manual for anyway as I like to know how everything works but I still want to change the tube as the section of rubber hose bothers me and right now the tube is not mounted anywhere and just flops around. the PO did a lot of little things like this and I am slowly trying to fix them so that if/when this thing hits the road I wont have too much come back to bite me.
thanks everyone. made some calls today and am waiting for return calls to see if someone has what I need
thanks
