Title: Need to find 12v Furnace air duct helper fan.
Post by: plyonsMC9 on September 06, 2007, 06:25:42 AM
Greetings,

We used to have a 12 volt inline fan in our prior S&S  motorhome.  Now, I would like to use the same thing to draw the heated air into the bays during the tropical winters we have up north. I thought it would be easy to find, but so far, no luck.  I've tried a couple different models of 12v computer fans, but they don't seem to have anywhere near the pull of the fan I used to have. Any links or suggestions as to where I can find this item?

Right now, we are using a suburban propane furnace and have taken an outlet off of that for our bay's heat source.  Eventually, I'd like to do a webasto or similar setup - but that's still 2 - 3 years out.

Thank you!
Phil

How about a 12v bilge blower from a boat?  Squirrel cage and blow 150-250cfm with pressure.  Good Luck, TomC

Thanks guys - this is much more than I had found before.  I'll research as to which will best fit around my self-constructed ducting system.   :D

Best Regards, Phil

There are some in-line bilge blowers that aren't as powerful but are much cheaper.  That might work for you, too.  Boaters World (and others) have them, but I've found the best prices on eBay.  You could wire it through a thermostat with a very low setting (like 38°) to protect everything if you aren't around.

I bought some 4" diameter bilge blowers on Ebay to pull the hot air from our generator compartment. If I recall correctly they move 260 CFM. These should fit right in your 4" furnace ducts.  Jack

Phis, while looking at my Surplus Center catalog I came across some fans/blowers and counted about 15 different 12 VDC units.
