Title: Do I need sealant on radiator shroud?
Post by: belfert on September 01, 2007, 08:20:25 AM
My radiator shroud had some sort of gooey tarry substance sealing it to the radiator frame.  The radiator shop removed the shroud and the sealer on the radiator frame when they worked on the radiator.

Do I need to replace this sealer?  What should I use?  The shroud actually might have enough sealer remaining that I won't have to worry as I think it is still sticky.

The current silicone sealers (as long as you buy the best-like GE gold label) are extremely good.  I had a hole in the bottom of my exhaust stack and patched it with silicone that I bought from Home Depot-it is still pliable and sticking to the lightly rusted pipe.  If it weren't for silicone sealer and nylon ties my bus would probably fall apart.  Good Luck, TomC

Brian,i would put it back being that it on for a reason to make sure the fan pulls the air through the radiator and not around the shroud.just my way
