Title: Not good -- Wish I was posting a positive post
Post by: Brian Diehl on August 31, 2007, 05:34:17 PM
Looks like our "brand new" reman turbo is on the brink.  We made it about 1/2 hour from home when I noticed it was getting oily looking in the exhaust.  Stopped and took apart an intercooler line and sure enough oil in the pipe! :-(  UGH
So, we had to turn around and come home.    We only had about 400 miles on the turbo and this past weekend when I had the intercooler pipes apart there was no oil in them at all.  So this is a new issue ...  It really sucks since this is supposed to be a brand new reman turbo.  I guess I'll pull it off some time this weekend and talk to cummins on Tuesday to find out if they will honor the warranty.  I expect them to, but ...
Man, we are losing out on our 4 days of relaxing up in Northern MN.  :-( :-(  boo hoo

Okay, enough crying and back to the regularly scheduled programming.  At least we figured it out and are not stuck on the side of the road some where at 0 dark thirty in the morning!

Brian,

I know you don't want or need a pity party.

You will get it fixed and get out on the road soon.

And I think it was a positive post,  "Stuff Happens" and we deal with it, like men, like You!

At least you didn't threaten to sell it, blow it up, blame your parents, or first grade teacher.... ;D ;D ;D

Hi Brian,

Sorry to hear about the turbo! That Stinks.. Especially after all the work you have done on the engine.

Well, things happen for a reason....hope it saved you a bigger problem.

Have a great weekend anyway!

Hi Brian,

sounds like you are doing a very good job of dealing w/a difficult situation.  One year our S&S motorhome broke down & we had to wait 2 days for the truck shop to open again on the following Monday before we could get it fixed.  In our case, myself, wife & kids made the best of the situation by having a great time swimming @ the indoor hotel pool and other adventures w/in walking distance.  Instead of being a bad memory, it is one of those things we all remember as a good thing.   In spite of "losing" a couple of days.  I suspect you & yours will do likewise.  Please keep us posted on your progress!

Kind Regards, Phil

Brian sorry to hear about this for sure, but look at the bright side! You now have time to get a new one from Cummins and get it back together to bring it down to the TN Bus Bash for a shake down run and we'll show case you, your bus and efforts on the engine swap! Hey what could be cooler? LOL! ;D  BK  ;D
