Hi luvrbus,
I just called Hickory Creek also to get the reopen date.  You're right the 28 Sept.  I was told that folks will have to call them at (877-444-6777 ) to get a 100% refund to your credit card.  I don't know that part of TX well enough to help with other places to look, but there are a few good size campgrounds down here around Kerrville TX.  Paul give me a call if you want me to look down here.

Hi All,

Just wanted you to know I received this email today.

Dear Mr. Lawry,

Thank you for using Recreation.gov for your camping needs. It is my pleasure to assist you today.

We just received notification today that Hickory Creek, TX has extended their closure until September 27, 2007, the park will reopen on September 28, 2007. You may call Customer Service at 1-888-448-1474 to either cancel your reservation with a full refund or transfer your reservation to another date with out a fee.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Thank you,
Elizabeth
Recreation.gov

I called this morning and the fellow I talked to did not know of the closure. Go figure. >:(

I received the above email after sending them an email yesterday.

To all who made reservations please follow the directions outlined in the above email.

I have not had time to study the situation enough to find another park close by. Clifford (luvrbus) did give me a couple of phone number to call. The problem is I have been in Phoenix this week and will be heading back to Abilene on Friday. I will try my best to make some contact tomorrow to find out if we can keep the same dates, just change the place for the gathering.

I do need all the help anyone can give at this point because it is only two weeks away.

Please either call me at 325-660-4635 or send me an email to paul_lawry@yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Paul

TBR 2007 Busnuts,

I stopped by Hickory Creek today and got the same news from the campground manager....not opening until Sept 28 or 29.

Sonnie Gray checked on 4 campgrounds at Lake Texoma today.  Unfortunately 3 are closed, but the 4th park is open and has space available for Sept 13-16.  The campground is Eisenhower State Park in Denison, TX on Lake Texoma.  Sonnie drove through the park today and reports that it should work for the big rigs and TBR 2007.  Fee is approx $17-18/nt.  For more info call 903-465-1956 or call Sonnie direct at 903-815-2141(yes Sonnie gave me permission to post his phone # ;) )  There are also plenty of fishing guides if you want to do some Striper fishin'.

Another park in the area is Texas Sundown Ranch just north of Sanger, TX.  It is not located on a lake, but is very RV rally friendly.  They have a 9-hole golf course if you want to play "pasture pool". ;D  Plenty of room for big rigs and the fee is $17.50/nt.  It is not as scenic as Eisenhower State Park, but is another possibility for TBR 2007.  For more info call 888-450-1290.

Not familiar with Loyd Park in Grand Prairie, TX.  I know it is on Joe Pool Lake, has 221 campsites, they have group camp areas(10 sites), $15/nt + $10/nt for additional vehicles(so $25/nt for bus & toad), campground is no longer flooded(never closed even during the heavy rains) and is run by the City of Grand Prairie.  To get more reservation info or to make reservations we need to call 817-467-2104 M-F 8am-4pm.

I will be talking with Paul about which direction to steer TBR 2007.....stay tuned! :)

Darrin,

What kind of power do we get and how many buses are we talking about?

Richard,

Eisenhower State Park: I believe Sonnie said they had 50amp service (elec, water & sewage) at 50 sites.

Texas Sundown Ranch: 50amp service (elec, water & sewage) available at ALL sites.

Loyd Park: 30amp & 50amp service (elec & water) at 221 sites.  Sewage via dump station in park.

We are expecting approx 25-30 buses.

Darrin and I spoke at great length tonight regarding which way to go. I favor Eisenhower also, but will wait for Sonnie to check it out and then call Darrin. Darrin will then call me so we can discuss it further.

In the meantime don't forget to cancel your Reservations at Hickory Creek.

This little bump in the road will not stop us from a fun get together, just slow us down a bit and make all of us appreciate it even more!

We are still planning on the same dates, Sep. 13-16, 2007.

Will be posting additional information as it is received.

Thanks,

Paul

Eisenhower State Park has not yet been selected as the new site for TBR 2007, but I've attached a park map for your review.

We plan to choose a site by Thurs or Fri....please stay tuned! :)

OK, now the dust has settled in the corral I feel better today. I was freaking out last night when I heard the campground informed me it would be closed during the time for TEXAS BUS ROUNDUP 2007. I had so many responses with ideas I asked my wife to help me out! Actually she contacted the KOA here in Abilene and there response was very pleasing. I was unsure because of all of the previous posts stating that KOA was not bus friendly. So if anyone happens to be in the area give them a call or stop by, it is just off HWY 20.  Joe Flanagan - Owner Abilene, TX KOA- 702-232-4896. Or better yet you can stay at our place!  ;) Bus Nuts are always welcome regardless of how it looks, cause ours aint so pretty anyway. Gettin there though.

I look forward to talking with Darrin later this morning and posting the NEW LOCATION.

Thanks BK for the invitation to your place. One day we will make it up there, I promise.

Thanks to everyone who responded with ideas, You guys rock.

I'm almost Happy Trails,

Paul

j.t.

My wife and I had thought about Glen Rose, we had a family gathering there a few months back and it is a beautiful area. Just trying to rely on a few of us that are knowledgeable with specific places. As I am a newbie to Texas I need all the help I can get. And this is one beg honkin state!
Your ideas are great! Thanks for the suggestions.

grapeland is having a bluegrass festival as we talk. also a good get away from the corp parks. sometime the over crowding is to much . we play some of that
type music so it works good for us.  oak lawn is a good park so some say. i talked to them about setting up my music store at some of the pickings and didn't get to good of a welcome. thanks jt.

TBR 2007 Busnuts,

First, a HUGE "Thank You" to Sonnie Gray for doing extra legwork to track down a new site on such short notice! ;D

With that said, the TBR 2007 will take place at the Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma close to Denison, TX! 8)  Sonnie helped us secure the Cedar Hollow Group camping area at a fee of $15/nt with no in/out fees (normally $3/day per person).  These campsites have 30amp Elec & Water.  No sewage at the sites, but there are dump stations in the park.  We will also have free use of the pavilion in the group area (normally $50/day) which includes built-in grills for doing a little BBQ. :D

To eliminate mass confusion trying to figure out the online or phone reservation system....Sonnie has graciously booked and paid for the Cedar Hollow Group area.  We have space for up to 37 buses/RV's in the group area (at last count we were expecting 25-30 buses :-\ ).  So no need to make reservations through the park system, but please confirm with Paul & I via this board or email that you will be attending   the TBR 2007 on Sept 13-16.

Now Sonnie is a super nice guy ;D, but he would like to be reimbursed.....so please be prepared to pay Sonnie your $45 fee ($15/nt x 3) when you arrive at the park.  Otherwise we may find out what "Don't Mess With Texas" really means!!! :o

Here is the park address & directions:
Eisenhower State Park
50 Park Rd 20
Denison TX 75020-4878

From Dallas: Take Hwy 75 North to Denison. Continue on Hwy 75 for 5 miles. Take Texas Hwy 91(exit 72) to FM 1310, turn West for 2 miles to the park.

Despite the last minute switch-a-roo we are very excited about getting as many fellow Busnuts together as possible for the Texas Bus Roundup 2007!  I have attached an updated park map specifying the Cedar Hollow Group area.  Let me know if you have any questions/concerns that I can help you with and we will see y'all soon! ;D

Thank You Sonnie and Darrin for taking the reins on this while I am away from home on the road. This would not have happened so smoothly without their help.

I am really excited about this new direction, because I know it is better suited for this our FIRST TEXAS BUS ROUNDUP! With the group area able to accommodate all the coaches in one place is fantastic and also the free use of the pavilion! Now that's a bonus.

Please take the time to inform us AGAIN of your intention of coming. We are doing this only because of the change of sites and to update the count. I also need to know for planing for the BBQ on Thursday night. Have to know how much food and beverages to feed the weary travelers! ;)

Hope to see y'all soon.

Happy Trails,

Paul

Paul, Darrin & Sonnie:
I am real happy your rally will still be held and this may all have happened for a reason we will never understand. Just think, you could have all arrived and a huge rain storm come and flooded you all out in at the very begining of your rally. So you have been blessed and with involvement from my good friend Sonnie & Darrin you will still have a great time.

I wish we could come, with the amount of buses expected at your first rally your hands will be full next year, take notes, (Pictures) of coarse and if I can help in any way up here in SC let me know.

Good luck with the weather and the complete rally, just wait till you meet Sonnie's wife Patty, and see his bus as well as visit with him. Your "gonna" have a great time and I am envious for sure.

You will see that problem has brought you all closer together to be sure you do have your rally now and always in the future no matter what problems arise. Good luck again and have fun!!

Gary,
Thank you for the kind & encouraging words (as always). :)  You are correct that Patty & Sonnie are a great couple and their bus is one of a kind.....CAT Power!! 8)  Get that Eagle road worthy and head west young man...maybe next year??

Cliff,
Comeback indeed....the full-court press was definitely on!  Sonnie shoots...he scores!! :D  BTW, that "Don't Mess With Texas thing" may get you bumped up a little higher on the prayer list. ;)  Wish you could make it to the TBR 2007....I'm sure we can let a native Floridian in at least for a few days. ;D

Have a safe & happy holiday weekend!

See y'all later,
Darrin
