Title: Battery charging problems
Post by: eagle10 on August 28, 2007, 11:04:41 AM
I have been having problems recently with my three interior 8D deep cycle acid batteries. They charge 3 ways: 1. With the bus running with the 350 amp generator: 2. Runniing the 8kw gen-set: 3. Plugging into the house current. With the bus running it charges at about 13.6 but with the house and gen-set it only charges at 12.4 so it won't give a full charge. I have a 75 amp charger on the bus. Any ideas for this problem? Thanks.

There is something wrong with the charger you're using on gen & shore.

It may not be charging at all!

The 12.4 your reading may be the batteries.

Disconnect one lead and check it with your VOM.

What is a good way to test my charger to see if it works?

Eagle,

Take off the Pos + lead from where the charger hooks to your batteries.

Put your VOM to DC Volts and measure from the Pos + lead to where your NEG - lead connects.

See if it has an output.  Should be around 13.8 +/-

Or measure your battery voltage, then plug in the charger, if no change charger has a problem.

I would do both as my charger wont put out if not connected.
