Title: catalytic converter or not?
Post by: ttomas on August 22, 2007, 05:20:58 AM
Can anyone guess or say for sure that I have a catalytic converter? It's a stock New Jersey transit with the 6v92. I have never been happy with the performance. After reading a post on this forum, I think this is a possible issue. I have all clean and new filters, no smoke or Known problems with the engine. It is a relatively fresh engine. Thanks, Tomas

Is this a DDEC controlled engine?  If so, you might need the DDEC re-programed for more horsepower.  Jack

Look at your muffler.  It is a cylinder with two band clamps in the middle about 6 inches apart, then you have a cat for sure.  If it is some other configuration, I can't say.  My MUI 6V92TA was an EPA rebuild and had a cat.  They can get plugged and affect performance.

Thanks Chris, there are two bands closer to the back of the muffler and they are 6" apart.
