Title: Air conditioner
Post by: mandolinplucker on August 18, 2007, 08:31:03 PM
So far I haven't convinced my lovely bride to give up the room that our 5th wheel with 3 slides has to camp in a bus conversion. I keep lurking on this board and working on her but for now we are in a 05 montana 36 ft 5th wheel. WE just had to cut a trip short because the air kept throwing the breaker in the camper. We had a mobile repairman come to repair it and he put in a new "start kit". It worked ok that night and quit the next day. It has the new digital, remote thermostat. I'm thinking that it is the thermostat or controlls. My question is; should the fan run all of the time. I hear the compressor cutting in on and off but the fan keeps running . How does it work when its running right? I am taking it to be repaired Monday and would like to have some Idea if they try to jerk me around.

I have the same setup in my bus (2-15K) with romote thermostat and on A/C the fans run with the compressor cuts in and out as needed. Same as you described.

Hi mandolinplucker,

If your unit needed a start kit and now the same problem is preasent, most likely the compressor's start windings are bad.

Usually, the start kit is a last resort and that indicates the windings are allready getting weak.

Now for the good news, If you have a Dometic A/C, you will have a 3 year parts and warranty. Dometic usually will approve

the replacement of the entire upper unit in a case of a bad compressor.

Oh, BTW.. Compressors in your condition usually burn out because of low voltage supplied to the camper!

Good Luck
Nick-
