Hi All
I have been lurking around this board for about 12 months now & have decided it is time to thank everyone for all the great information I have gained. During that time, using some of the knowledge from this board, I have bought a bus & have now commenced the conversion process.
My bus is a 1993 Nissan UA440, originally owned by a private school in Japan. Vital stats are: -
Length: 35' (10.7m)
Width: 98" (2.5m)
Engine: 12 liter 4 stroke diesel
Suspension: Air bags
Brakes: Air with ABS & engine braking (Jake)
Mileage: 35K (56K km)
Year: 1993
Interior headroom: 6'7" (2m)
Gearbox: 5 speed manual full syncro & air assisted clutch
The bus is more of a transit in layout, without much space underneath. The top speed I have driven the bus is 70 mph, however the max legal speed here is 62mph & there are very few roads where it is safe to drive a bus more than 60mph.
The bus was imported to New Zealand just before I purchased it & still needs a few minor fixes to get NZ registration.
Obviously, design details of a Japanese Nissan are different to the average busses you have in North America. Even so, there are a lot of details that are common in converting.
One of the interesting challenges of converting a Japanese bus is that all writing in the bus is in Japanese, so I have no idea what it says. I have to guess at which control does what.
So thank you for all of your assistance so far
Peter
Welcome to the asylum. You will have a lot of interesting experiences with this!!
Welcome aboard Peter. I just missed you in the Chat Room this morning....by the time I logged in you were gone. I said 'Good Morning" but after reading your profile I was wondering if I should have wished you, 'Good Day.'
For us over here we can't be sure how closely you Kiwi's are with your greetings with your neighbors...we only have "Crocodile Dundee" to go by and of course he's from that other island nation. But we know who wins the "America's Cup" with more class!
It's a pleasure to have you on our Board. Please do stop by the Chat Room again...there are some real great regulars there who will enjoy chatting with you.

Welcome aboard,
I had the good fortune to visit your beautiful country 15 years ago. I spent time in Christchurch and Queenstown on each end of a trip to Antarctica; missed the capital city. I hope to correct that sometime.
Gidday All
I'm actually an Australian living in NZ. True Kiwis say "Kia Ora".
Thanks for the welcome. Of course, if any of you are ever in Kiwi Land, drop us a line. Would love to show you the sights and pick your brains about bus conversions.
Cheers
Peter
