This thing came off the truck I got my ISM motor out of. It has an air line for compressed air on the bottom and an oil inlet and outlet. Inside there is a bearing mounted cone that air is directed into. At the bottom of the outer edge of the cone are air jets that cause the cone to rotate in around the center shaft that it is mounted on. There are no filters inside, just this rotating cone. What is it and what was it's purpose?

Don't know. but it will be interesting to find out. I thought at first it was an air dryer until I saw it had oil lines. Weird.

If you don't want it I might be interested. They use a similar type where I work and they work great. I don't think you are looking at air lines but oil lines. If you are going to put many miles on your bus you should use it yourself.
Barnowl, Very interesting thread you posted, never heard of that. Does it really work? Sounds like you have experience with it.

AIR powered CENTRIFUGE ?
Yes, they work very well, especially on older mechanical diesels. The newer diesels are a lot cleaner so my company is fazing them out. I wish I could get my hand on the stuff that is sent to the shredder, we would all have one for free. The problem is that they don't even let you take a breath of air out of the place; I have to exhale when I go through the guard shack.
On the ones I am familiar with, you put what looks like a piece of paper around the inner wall of the centrifuge. Over time a very fine substance will build up on it due to the centrifugal force. The sediment reminds me of the powder that builds up around the shroud of a cut off saw or a grinding wheel, except it's black, not gray. When it's time to service it you remove the paper with the junk on it and install a new paper ring. I would like to get my hands on one if the price was within my budget.

No, it's not air powered. It uses the pressurized oil to spin the centrifuge.
This unit DOES have a pressurized air line at the bottom. I don't know what the purpose of the line is though.

This shouldn't matter but what brand of truck did your engine come from? I thought by now or resident FREIGHTLINER SALESMAN might have enlightened us about it! What about it TomC ?

I wonder how one of these would work with two cycle Detroits. I don't have any oil pressure to spare at an idle. Maybe with a bypass valve that would only open when pressure is above a preset level.
Any idea what one costs?

Yep, this was on a Freightliner, 2000 Century Class Truck.
Is that some kind of adjustment knob on the left side???
That secures the band that holds the clean-out cover.
