Title: Printing Help assist list
Post by: Hi yo silver on August 09, 2007, 07:51:13 PM
Guys,
I hate to be a dummy, but will one of you computer gurus tell me how to resize the help assist list so it's not too wide for me to get it all on the page when I print it?  With a little luck, I will make the deal on a bus next week, and I'll feel a lot more confident traveling if I have a number or two to call if I run into trouble.  I'll keep you posted.  THANKS!!
Dennis

Dennis, need to know exactly what list you are talking about. Is it on the Help board and is this the actual list you want:

http://www.cruiser-magazine.com/Help_assist_data_base.html (http://www.cruiser-magazine.com/Help_assist_data_base.html)

I can't help with resizing, but this may help one of the gurus decide exactly what you want to print.

What browser are you using? There is a setting that allows you to tell it to 'shrink to fit width'. Each browser is a little bit different, but I'll post the generic instructions. There may be subtle differences in the browser you use.

Open the page in your browser and then go to the File menu and select Print Preview. After the page loads in the viewer you should be able to change the size in the options at the top. If 'shrink to fit' is available that is what you want. If not, go down in 10% intervals till you get what you want. About 80% worked for me.

Hi Dennis....... I may be able to help.

I am working on a printable version of the "Help Assist List" in PDF form. That would mean you will be able to print the list on any printer without worrying about re-sizing everything.

I will make the list available Free Of Charge (of course), how ever I am not comfortable just publishing a link to it because there is a lot of personal data in there that I don't want spammers to get their hands on. Simply e-mail me off board and once I determine that you are a member of the board I will reply to your e-mail with the PDF version of the Help Assist List.

Happy to help, if there's a better way please let me know.

Thanks Dave, i hoped you would chime in here. BTW, what is the difference between what is currently posted here and a PDF file that you are proposing? Dummies want to know!

Hmmmm - What am I missing here - If you just click on "FILE" - somewhere up on the top banner - and choose "PRINT" you should get about 11 pages of output - all sized to your printer - simple as that

what am I missing here ?? - should just be a very very simple task

Pete,

It really depends on how you have your print drivers set up.

   1. Print 100%
   2. Scale to fit

Theses are the most common setup parameters for the printer.
At 100% the paper width may not be enough for the document.

Skip is close, Pete is right on, but some computers are set up and can not print out html pages correctly.

I have made it easy. Just email off board and I will respond with a reply that will have a PDF file in it. PDF is an acronym for Portable Document File. Simply put, it is a file that can be read by any computer and printed with any printer, easily. It keeps all of the formatting so the State names and City names remain with the bold type. The paragraphs and line breaks stay constant. In other words, the document will look like I made it and it is easy to do. Eventually I will update it farther and make each page a state so it will be like a book.

Thanks for your interest , and I hope this helps.

Dave,
I have sent you a personal message. Others responding, thanks for your help.  Hated to be so much trouble, but really felt the need to take this info with me on the road and I don't have a laptop yet.  By the way, I finagled around with it and found out if I changed the format to landscape, everything fit on the page!  Wahlah!  I'm gonna take a basic computer class soon, I promise.  Thanks all.
