Well, maybe a potential busnut but he would have to ask a lot of questions on this board first.  Did you notice that there is no return to the a/c, just drawing in outside air?  I don't think it will last very long.

That can't help his gas mileage.

Carefull, this is going to spark another debate over which is better: Roof air or trunk air.

Wish I could find my photo of a redneck A/C. Pickup truck with the A/C thru the back window and a genset in the bed of the truck.

I'm trying to figure out how he has a big enough alternator to supply a window A/C unit and still run everything else in the car.  Even an F-350 only has a 130 amp alternator and I suspect a car is a fair bit smaller.

I was wondering about that too (amp draw). But those small 5,000 BTU window units have a fairly small amp draw. Maybe the small stock alternator is enough for it.

I noticed the lack of a return on it  as well... It seems that would have a negative effect on cooling as well as working the unit pretty hard. Oh well.. I'm definitely no A/C expert so most of what I'm saying is just a guess.

I don't think he cares much, been using it for a couple of years. It works for him! Whatever works! 8)
