Gary sent me some pictures of a bus he's interested in buying.
Any comments?

Price sounds fair, would set the bar lower though. Rest of coach looks OK. How are the mechanicals? Just depends how much work you are willing and capable of doing. Good Luck!
Happy Trails,

I would say that the asking price i fair...I would go with 2k cash and see if they will take it...likely will. It is not going to be something they are going to sell tomorrow.
all depends on how much sweat equity and parts it needs. I would hazzard a guess that for the money it is going to need to be put into it he can find something nicer that has not been used as a storage shed.
likey has cooling issues as evidenced by the placement of the louvers in the target sign area. Radiator fins look messed up.
have someone go look at it that knows what things cost both mechanical and what you are going to do on the inside conversion wise. then weigh your other options.
Thanks for viewing and Your welcome comments so far. This bus in particular was something I was considering just to use temporarly until I have our Eagle done, (I promise Steve). I wangted a 4 speed, stick shift, (To learn how to shift the Eagle when done and I also like the hesitation sound of an experienced driver of a DD when they get her up to RPM in each gear. The work to be done by me on this bus at this time was to paint outside to look more acceptable in parks and on the road. Rough the inside to be sure to have a bath and HD kitchen for wife with some minor furniture to be comfortable in. I did not want any more real rust removal projects for sure, still got one nearly done and that is it!!!!! This idea to have a second bus was just so we could get on the road with a real bus, have some fun and more room than my S&S. Then perhaps when we are done with the Eagle project I could "Consider" giving the 4104 to a family memember if they are interested to continue their way for a busnut project.
I have since looked at this situation more with the help of a friend from his computer only as he evaluated these photos for me and have decided to look around more. I prefer a 4104, 6-V71 engine, stick shift to learn how to shift etc. and something liveable right now--Today--this minute if the price was right.
Gotta tell the wife first---oh, oh, on that one.
Actually this information may help others inticed by that "Cheap" price to get started but as the more experienced have stated, how much work do you want to do and how quickly do you want to use it. As you all know that I have been working on my Eagle now "5" years and she still does not run. Working slower now also adds to this time. Not good!!
Other friends are helping me with 4104 bus choices through their contacts with more busnuts and maybe I will find what I can use for the next ("2" Years to complete Eagle) which I hope is all I will need to use the 4104 bus for.
Why the 4104?? Man, you have to really see Leroy Ashe, Sarah Redding, Sam Phillips, Uncle Ned, Al Kline & Tommy MCalister's bus plus many others I am sorry but I do not remember their names and apologize for but (I am 62 you know) . If you see these historic beauties and realize the history in our time of them and how great they really look now tooling down the road still and pouring out that great DD sound you can understand better why I feel in love with these ole girls. The view from behind as they pass is just something not describable in words to me, like being at a beach in FL. on Spring Break!! Not really the same feeling but close and only us ole timmers remember these old buses used by the bus transportations companies and the respect you give them then and for me in particular and other 4104 owners now.
I say that the 4104 is a temporary thing until the Eagle is done, But our Eagle is intended in due time for someone very, very important in our lives one day and my promise to her to compete it will not be broken unless God has a better need for me in the future, that will be the only thing that will cause me to break that promise. But If if I find a GM 4104 and it turns out to be similar to the bus owners buses I mentioned above who knows, my heart may just stay in check and I become a GM man as well forever too.
Dallas, this could be a good bus search for that right Dream bus for newbies, (AGAIN of Coarse), to view these photos and see what is available for that price, and get feed back and appreciated evaluations and comments from the more experienced. I know this might have to be moved to the "HELP" section very soon, but I like it and hope others see the value of this information for those still searching. Maybe classify them in Bus models etc. Just a thought now!! I always think big and cause myself problems with others, but man the information we have here now is just exciting to think about. Think back 8 years ago today if you can. WoW!!!
Again thanks for the comments, keep them coming, I'll find that "Other" bus for us and thank all for their help in helping me search.
Gary
Gary,
I would stick with my S&S until the Eagle is ready.
Even if just a tin tent. My main reason is that buses (as you well know) can be expensive to repair.
Not only money, but time.
Your S&S, though maybe not as big as you want, is fine for now.
Save your money and energy for the EAGLE.
Ok, now the really hard love part....I KNOW you will restore the 4106 to pristine condition...You WON'T be able to stop yourself......Its just YOU......
You'll get there on the Eagle.....
Cliff
Personally have never seen a 4106 with a 6V-71 and an Allison VS-2 in it?! I thought all 4106's had the 8V-71 and 4 spd manual. Personally-would pass on this unless you wanted to spend alot of time on it, and alot of time climbing hills-would be a dog to drive with the Allison VS-2. Good Luck, TomC
Look closer guys, I think that it has a 6v71 with a VS2 transmission. Must have had a transplant from a transit donor bus. I would stay away from that thing; they are asking too much money for something that will take too much time away from your current project. If you don't like rust then a GM bus is the way to go. I like the idea of having a temp bus to enjoy while you are working on your dream. We need to find you a bus that would make that a possibility.
How about this one?

The 64' 4106 second down on the page.
OK, I posted a fraction of a second behind Tom, and he beat me to it. Tom is right, that would be a dog.
Just by these few post and comments this bus is Toast. Too many variables from what owner says and what you guys see, that is how I got in this mess in the first place as I did not know anything about Eagles and even less now about GM's.
It has been gratefully suggested to keep S&S, donate all my time to Eagle and get "R" done which makes sense to reconsider. But I got to say to all you guys with these beauties, Lucky Dudes and Dudettes!! Love them.
Don't worry now, when I park next to you guys with our Eagle in the "Near" future I know I will not keep you awake all night!!
Thanks again guys, head much clearer now.
Gary
Gary, I think that was a smart decision on your part, why have two to do.
Paul
You & Cliff are right Paul, Thanks.
Gary
smart move.
