Title: Beach Trip: Bus Suffered Catastrophic Failure!!!!!
Post by: NewbeeMC9 on July 30, 2007, 07:09:02 PM
Dropped the family off at Hunting Island campground and went back for them this weekend and spent the weekend fishing and beaching and such.  When we were packing up to leave thats when I discovered the possible catastrophic failure.

THE AWNING WOULD NOT RETRACT!! :o :'(

woe is me! had to stand on the cooler to retract by hand, boo, hoo,hoo :'(,  I new i shoulda packed that step stool :D ;D

other than that,  she ran great for sitting a while and one tripped breaker was the only bus issue.  the colmans were the envy of the tent campers on the warm, muggy friday night.  even if they don't have a low.

Oh yeah, had my HF infrared themometer, all bearings and side walls were about 116-120 F and the tread side was 136-140,  anybody have comparable results?

ran her over the cat scales to,  32240 lbs of cat,  guess where the 240 came from.

I guess it's repairable or maybe its time to upgrade.  Might be easier than trying to clean this one.  I may have to look on ebay for a awning manual ;D  maybe i will just hook a string on it that winds on when i let it out and i pull it to retract it,  always something.

Ohmygawd!  What a dilemma!  Sure would be a sight to see your bus going down the rod with the awning extended.

Somewhere there's a moral to this story.  Something about leaving the bus and the family alone and the BusGremlins dropping in for a visit. Would broken egg shells placed strategically around the bays chase them off?  It worked on the boats!

Egads man! isn't there a spell or somethin'...some incantation that will pacify those little beggers?

You'll have to talk with someone with better connections than I have.......

Yeah it's my own private heck,  thanks for your moral support, i think the racoons would have gotten the eggshells though and ruined the strategic placement. :D

I was hopin someone would chime in with awning winding experience and tidbits.

Was good to see you at the cove, hope to see you again.

Most awnings have a recoil spring in the tube. You may not have the spring tensioned enough.

Just funnin ya'll,  i didn't see any drama so i thought i would have a turn.  Kinda like Cliffs "one in the crowd" theory.

Thanks Prevost82,  I'm sure its repairable,  just hadn't had time to figure out how. ;)

Didn't they try that on the movie RV?  Didn't work too well if I remember correctly.   :D
