I have a 18 volt craftman screwdriver gun that has a dead battery. Is there a way to get this thing to take a charge again??
buy a new one, very effective.
You can buy a new one for almost the price of a battery. Not much help in trying to recharge a dead, I mean really dead battery. I know from experience. They just won't hold the charge for very long. Recycle the battery before you toss it.

If you can cobble up a source of 36 volts (Three car batteries), try "flashing" the battery. Connect it plus to plus to your source for a couple of seconds. Do that four or five times, then recharge as usual. It won't make a new battery out of it but may give you a few months more of service.

earlier posts on these boards had talked about a procedure to bring them back, all it did to mine was really kill the battery so it was totally unusable. I bit the bullet and bough a new one. Mne was a 14.4 volt makita. The new one had more capaicty thant he old one did, as battery technology has progressed. While the price hurt ( I think it was $70 for one), the performance was well worth it, it was like I had new drill again. Just do it.
You may not be able to get one. Sears does not sell replacement batteries for the small 3.6v screwdriver.
Buy a complete drill kit from Harbor Freight for $19.99 and when it dies buy another drill kit and throw away the old one. I've done this quite a few times.
You can probably get two or three HF drills for what one Sears battery will cost.
Try www.batteryrebuilders.com (http://www.batteryrebuilders.com). They rebuild almost any rechargable battery pack. HTH, John
Sears does not sell an 18 volt craftsman like I have anymore. I went to Home Depot and bought [2] 18 volt Ryobis that fit this unit O.K. plus I now have new power for my others. Thanks for the ideas.
