Quick hit on the weekend...
Last week I was torn over the decision of taking the bus to the Kyle's mini rally. I had just bought the bus about six weeks earlier and didn't want to venture too far too soon. Being that I am an adventurer/explorer at heart and I really wanted to me some fellow nuts, I decided to hit the trail. :)
Saturday the wife and I pulled out of Lincolnton, GA (where I keep the bus) around 10:00 am. Stopped about an hour later to check the tires/hubs/fluids etc.. Everything checked out fine and we headed on towards the rally. Around 1:30 we were nearing our destination and everything was just fine. ;D
Then I missed my turn. :-\
No problem the map says I can take the next left to correct my mistake. When I get to the turn there has been a motorcycle accident and the roadway is completely blocked by motorcycles and onlookers, no where for a 40 footer to go (except for up). Now I'm in a tight spot. The next 8 miles is straight up over Caesar's Head Mountain (8% grades and more curves than Anna Nicole) :o
What do you do? I kept on pushing. The next 8 miles seemed like eighty. This is my first trip in the bus. I have a 6v71 - VH9. Can I even make it? I'm not nervous just serious and focused, I don't want my first trip to be my last. It's just too much damn fun...right?
What I didn't know was I had good company. I own a GMC (ain't that right Dallas?) and have a good wife and dog. Never went slower than 20-25 mph and right over the top we went. No overheating, No busted parts. 8)
Now here we are on the opposite side of the mountain from the rally. Do we just turn around and go back over? I think not! Never push your luck twice in one day. We decided to go around the mountain. We went to Hendersonville and then back down 25 and over to the campground. (4 hours later)
I finally got to meet some fellow bus nuts. The best people on earth. The weather was nice and a good time was had by all.
Two things I learned:
1. Never miss your turn!
2. Never underestimate your GMC Bus!
Happy Trails! ;D
Now you tell me I am good company. Can I add number 3 to your list...always check the map to see if there is another road in case you miss your turn! ;D
If you had called the camp ground, I'll bet there would have been a drag race out of there to see who would get to 'ya first! ;D
I had gone on a little field trip Sat afternoon & it was so cool to see that bus of yours turning in to the Cove just as we came up the road.
Your bus is so cool, the non-bus owners hosting the campgrpond asked more questions about yours than any of the others there! 8)
So glad you decided to make it!
May suggest purchasing a GPS....
Hummmmm, you can still miss a turn, but it politely tells you to turn around.
Thanks for sharing, made me laugh.
Bill
I think we would of had a GPS a little confused about the 315th turn around the mountain.

Been there, done that coming from Timmonsville in 2006, remember. 90 miles out of the way, had to go all the way back to Timmonsville nearly to get back the freeway I was supposed to be on and the original turn was only 10 miles about from Dallas & Cats!! Got me a GPS now, her name from me is Darla!! Her voice is so sexy I still nearly miss my turns cause I want to hear her say, (Make a legal "U" turn when possible to continue destination). Wife thinks I got the hots for her voice!! God I bet she looks great in a bikini.
Brandon and Nickie, we sure enjoyed meeting you, hearing your story of your arrival in person and welcome to your first rally which I am sure you could not have had a better time at any place.
Gary
Have you tried the sexy english voice on the GPS.....? :-* Now that is one hot babe. :) Of course Jill is nothing to kick out of the bus. ;D
By the way,,,,, YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY? ::)
Bill
Personally, I liked the Aussie lass in the rental GPS when I went to Jack's party last New Year's. . . :D
Crazy??? And who would you be talking about??
now if you could program your wifes voice into the gps.... that would be an invention.... :o :-\

It gets worst,,,, I had the GPS on, picked up a date,,,,,,,, :) Then I had TWO women telling me where to go.... :o
Bill
Who in their right mind would want to program their wifes voice in a GPS??
what busnut is in his right mind?
Gary
You are right...none! That is why I am married to one!
Did you go see the photo's of your bus on the net from the SC rally Nickie? I mis-spelled your name on one photo and could not correct it without ruining it so I am sorry about that one. But glad to have met you guys there also.
Gary
I did. Thanks for all the work putting those up. As far as my name as long as its close its doesn't bother me. I'll answer to it...lol
