Hey Y'all, all this talk of Cat & Dallas and Paula & Jack visiting our little piece of heaven got me to thinking - why not make a 'formal' invite for all who want to stop by. There is a nice campground near Table Rock that has 148 (20 foot wide) full hook-up sites (30 & 50 amp). Most are pull thru.
Palmetto Cove RV Park
521 Table Rock Road
Cleveland, SC 29635
A link to their brochure:
http://palmettocove.com/?download=Cove%20Brochure.pdf
$18/night
There is a requirement that you must be fully self contained as there are no campground showers.
I've checked with the park management & all are welcome. The shelter & dining hall is available.
I'll be there with my wife & kids. :D
NCBob will be there with the lovely Jackie. 8) ;D
Anyone else interested?
Hi Kyle
We would be interested in attending this little bash. Keep us informed
Sam
Kyle,
I have not heard back from Gary LaLombard (he is camping this week with his grandkids), but hopefully he will jopin us also. Jack
I cant imagine Gary passing up this opportunity ;D
It's close enough for a day trip for sure!
As for those that don't want to camp, admission is free! If I can get a decent head count, I can bring BBQ for $5.00 per plate We can do this Saturday evening or Sunday Noon or both.
Or we could do burgers & hotdogs.
O, It's a red letter day!
I just heard back from my financial advisor and she tells me that yes, we can go.
Happy Happy Joy Joy. Happy Happy Joy Joy!
I think we're gonna stay at Jon and Mandy's for at least one night, that is if they can put up with us.
Cat can't wait to see the kids and Ernie, Our grey and white kitty is Really looking forward to seeing Chewie again! ;)
I hope the adult beverages are being chilled, even as we speak!

Hey Sam! How are y'all? It will be GREAT to see you again!
Looking forward to meeting more busnutbuddies too!
If anyone's interested, you can arrive earlier & stay as long as you wish, 7th day is free.
Dallas, I'm sure you will be welcomed by that newbeemc9 feller. ;D
I wish my bus was road ready. I would be there! Although it is mighty tempting to ride up and meet some fellow bus nuts anyway.

Ya don't have to have a bus to show up.
After all, Gary LaBombards claim to fame is that hs bus has been up on blocks for what seems like at least 10 years! ;)
By the time he gets done rebuilding the undercarriage he'll be able to have his granddaughter drive it around for him 'cause he'll be too old to remember what a steering wheel is.
Gary.... if your reading this, I was only funnin'! We hope you can make it. Then you'll see some real conversions. Not like mine, but realy real ones!
Dallas
I'n not about to let lack of a running bus deter me! ;D
BTW, Dallas, your bus is as REAL as they get! The $$$$$$$ marathons don't impress me. ;D
My bus is running. It is just stripped to the bone and I am not 100% certain how road worthy it is since I just bought it a month ago. I googled Palmetto Cove and it is only about 120 miles from where the bus is. Now if it were only about half that distance, I would drive it over so everyone could inform me of my insanity! I just may take the notion to drive up and meet some folks and definitely check out the merchandise.

buddydawg,
if it runs, and the distance were only half the 128 then you could drive it 64 miles
Just drive it 64 miles twice
That way, once you make it the first 64, you can decide whether to take it the other 64 or go back 64.
After all, the longest journey starts with the first step!
Have fun, and ride up on a bicycle if you want, we'll be glad to meet you anyway.

Buddydawg what better way to make a shake down run? Than to drive it like Dallas said about an hour and stop look things over, and either go back, or go on the other hour and meet a bunch of nuts and new friends who will be glad to take time to show you lots of things about your bus! Drive it,use it, enjoy it as you build it!

Yeah, It's kinda like the busnut who decided to swim across the English Channel.... He swam half way across and got tired so he swam back! :-\ :-*
If I decide to bring the bus you can check out my modern systems. We'll start with wastewater tank & toilet.

No Problem,
Personally, I prefer the square Tidycat buckets, they seem, a bit more, ummmm,
user friendly.
When we had our old look transit, we had a system a lot like that. It worked good and the big plus was, it was a lot easier to put the bag on someones porch light it on fire, ring the door bell and run!

Dallas we always got the old pickle buckets from McDonald's! The smell of the pickles, would make ya automatically pucker! LOL !
Man this is getting better all the time!
I just talked to Gary & he'll be here! Along with his camera to document this for posterity!
If you can make it, please let me know so I can let the park know how many spots & we can park together! Also a head count will make planning the BBQ & hamburgers & etc.
At Timmonsville, we sort of did a buffet style with those who were able bringing their favorite sides & snacks to share, others chipped in what they felt was appropriate. I thought we'd do the same.
Comments & suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

It would be nice if someone, say like our friends along the Chesapeake would bring down a hundred pounds or so of softshell crabs, or maybe a couple of our North Eastern Neighbors would mosey on down with a few cases of fresh Maine Lobster.
Hey, you asked for suggestions! ;D

Just remember, as the disease progresses the urge for information will only get worse.
Before you know it, he'll know every little difference between buses, both transit, suburban and parlor.
Maybe if it gets bad enough, we can perform an intervention at the mini rally!

Hi Jack, I'm going Friday after work. Mom & Dad (Sarah & Fred Brandt) are planning on being there around 3pm Friday.
Kyle, we are looking forward to seeing you. I was hoping your parents would be there. Can't wait to give your dad a hard time about that "awful" camper he has. He and I had a good time teasing each other at the Oct rally. We will be there on Friday. Sounds like a pretty good group of us will be available for the "mine is bigger, better, lying contest". Cat

Kyle,
We will plan to arrive on Friday. We will stay Sunday night and leave from there on Monday AM, when we leave for Alabama. Jack
Busted! Looks like we are going for sure now.
Blackmail, badgering, whatever it takes to get to meet all the bus nuts. As for the board being down. Sorry, just couldn't resist!! Dallas gave me his sick humor. LOL Cat
Sick humor...hmmm....looks like we will fit right in.
She forgot extortion and pandering.
It's looking looks there's almost a dozen family units showing up so far ;D
It's gonna be FUN. Don't miss it.
Life is short, attend a busnut rally first, & then dessert.
Wow, that's kewl. See how easy it is to start an impromptu rally? When they are fairly small, they are easy to get going. I am really looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Kyle, maybe your dad can get some of his air stream friends to come and see how a real rally is done. Lots of talking and fun!! Everyone come on over, with or without your bus. This is one of the neatest ways to get ideas, learn and hear more bussin lies than you ever thought you could hear. If ya have extra bus parts, why not bring 'em and see if someone else can use them? Everyone be safe!! Cat
Jackie & I took a ride over to Palmetto Cove RV Park today (Sunday) and were real impressed. We should be honored that the Brandt family has invited all of us to share their little secret.
The primary reason for our going was to be sure that those of you who wish to follow us back over to Gods' part of western NC might have the easiest drive possible. It's sort of a six of one-half a dozen of another as far as milage is concerned but we clocked it off in the Toad at about 100 miles from Table Rock State Park to Franklin and all good highways.
One thing we might mention is that the minor items like fuel and ice aren't going to be readily available in the immediate area so you might look to that before leaving your area. Pickens/Greenville is about a 20 minute drive in a car but not that handy in a bus.
For Dallas and Ned, and anyone else who'd like to come to Franklin and points west on Monday, we're planning on going south on SC8 to SC11 (a short run) and pick up SC76 near Westminister and go to Clayton, GA. There we'll take US441 north right to our RV Park here just south of Franklin. Total run of just short of 100 miles and no big mountains for Dallas little engine to climb. (hehehe)
I've invited some friends who will drive over on Saturday (I think) who some of you have met. Tom Panozzo from Sylva, NC. Ned and his Dad and Tom and I shared lunch one pleasant day and Jack met him in FL when he took Jack's bowling alley bench top down, and Kyle met him a while back over apple pie and coffee. You never can tell where another BusNut will come from........
If I can be of help contact me at (828) 371-8535 or if you need money....... call Kyle.
NCbob
Bob, you forgot to give us Kyles phone phone number. He says it's BR549 but that's mine so it can't be his also.
Bob,
When I talked to you on the phone, I didn't realize that you were talking about leaving the campground on Monday, I thought you were talking about leaving Franklin tomorrow to go to the campground. Please check to see it they can handle our 40' MCI. Following you back sounds good. Lookin' forward to seein' everyone. Jack
Alright, count us in for the short bus, i mean the short notice bus-nut gathering. Attending will be me, my wife and one of our good friends. We've been going over the bus this weekend to get it as road ready as possible and I think it is a go. We are going to come up on Saturday morning. Just let me know what I need to do, bring etc... This will be my first trip with the bus so I'm a newbie to this campground stuff.
One or two cases of fresh lobster. 2 dozen steaks, with fixin's. 10 cases of imported beer, well chilled.
Well....you asked didn't you? LOL Told ya I had a weird sense of humor!
Actually, from what Kyle said I think just something to contribute to the potluck meal but I'll let Kyle jump in with a more specific answer if he wants to.
We are really glad you are going to come join us and look forward to meeting you.
Alwright Buddydawg!!! There will be someone to assist with whatever you need once there.
Shhhhhh Bob, that was supposed to be kept a secret for only those that attended ;)
Now that the cat's out,
Palmetto Cove will easily handle big rigs. It is a not-for-proffit park that was established by the Airstream club & is set up for rallies.
You will need a potty, sink & a bed to be 'legal' (there are public toilets & a laundry facility, but no showers) I don't think there will be anyone checking tho.
If there is interest, we can work together for meals:
If you want to make a donation to help offset the cost, that would make my finance department happy. & Bring your favorite beverage & sides to share & we can go from there.
We can have pancakes & sausage for breakfast.
We can grill hamburgers & hot dogs Sat for lunch. (Bring your own meat or we'll run to the store.)
We may be able to make some homemade ice cream Saturday afternoon - If anyone feels like cranking on the churn handle ;D
BBQ Sat night (I have a friend that has a BBQ restaurant that is doing the cooking.)
S'mores Friday & Saturday nite ? ?
Whatever's leftover for Sunday lunch.
After that, you're own your own.
I guess a couple of buckets and a cot will be all I have since the ole bus is completely empty! :D
I think we can manage with what we have. I have a bunch on tailgating/camping supplies and it will only be for one night. I really want to bring the bus so I can get some good input, since I am sure that there will be no shortage of opinions. :o As far as the food goes we will just follow the crowd.
If I had a freezer I would mix up a batch of my famous frozen margaritas! Maybe next time...

Frozen Margaritas? Uh hey ya Buddydawg olpal longlost new friend, Uh has anyone mentioned to ya we gonna have real humdinger of a getogether in Union City, TN in September? Ahhh with like lots of help and advice from fellow busnuts, and garage time over the pit in my shop! Ahhh ya did say frozen margaritas didn't ya olbuddydawg ol pal? Ahh let us know if ya need directions! LOL! Seriously Dallas 'N Cat can fill ya in a little more!
;D BK ;D
Fresh seafood and steaks... I don't get treated like that at home..j/k But the margaritas on the other hand I may be able to talk him into those for this weekend. Just may have to spread them around quite a bit. ;D
dawggrl,
I'll make sure there's extra room in our freezer, even if the wifes ice cream stash accidentally gets dumped on the floor. ;)
I'm also sure there should be a bunch of others with extra room!
Dallas
Ice Cream? What ice cream? I ate it all, yes all, so there would be room for margaritas. Ice cream can always be replaced.
Here is another set of directions
Do you have good numbers on how many folks are coming and how many busses will be there?
Way to go KYLE!
I certainly want to come to this one too! I ran accross a bunch of Scenicruiser stuff the other nite,I want to share with you. Do you need a reservation?
Bill
If you're bringing scenicruiser stuff, you will be allowed in regardless of reservation status! ;D 8)
The campground has PLENTY of space & doesn't take reservations anyway.
If you want me to bring enough food as mentioned earlier in this thread, you need to let me know so I can have enough.
So far only a few have let me know for sure.
So far, it looks like over 30 people will be there;
Over half dozen buses,
Some will be in a sticks & staples class A,
Some will be in a sticks & staples class C,
I'll be in a borrowed Airstream trailer (Thanks, Dad! ;D )
Some will drive over for the day,
So we are a non denominational rally :o
Gary will be bringing a karokie thinggy for those so inclined.
If anyone wants to show their musical talents, bring it!
My kids will have their bicycles.
I'll have my big mouth ready to embellish any story ;)
The main thing is fun fellowship with busnuts!
Kyle, Dallas and I will be glad to bring something to contribute food wise. Just let us know what you need. We are thinking about getting there on Thursday and will need to pick up whatever we bring before we get there. We no longer have my junk heap of a car and once we get the bus parked we don't want to have to move it till we have to. It's nice to know there are still campgrounds around that let any vehicle in, even airstreams. LOL We are in Chester tonight at the state park and except for the heat, had a fairly uneventful trip. Right now we are enjoying the a/c and a thunderstorm. Nice excuse to lay back and do nothing! Cat
After some emails with Kyle it was decided, kinda, that Dallas and I will bring watermelon and/or some other seasonal fruit. Kyle is buying food for Sat lunch and supper. Has everyone notified him if you are definitely showing up? Since he is doing all that shopping for us, we all need to remember to make a donation to cover some of the costs, especially since we aren't paying up front for registration fees. We know from experience that food and stuff can be very costly. We also have a large capacity coffee pot so there will coffee in the AM for everyone. Cat
Kyle, The same goes for us here, why don't you assign something in particular you would like Linda & I to bring, email me today instead of posting here, we will be gone most of today. Today is Wednesday, we will be going with Jack & Paula to the best SC Flea market at Pickens you know!! Anyhow, if we can help with anything in particular, it does not matter what, assign it to us and consider it out of your mind to think about. At our first meal together we will all make donations to off-set any expenses you personally have contributed to our rally this weekend so just be sure to give us an accounting of what was involved so we can do our part to just say thank you to your and your family and parents again.
Kyle, we also all appreciate the fact you have put this all together for us here in middle SC, which we hope will turn out to be a annual thing also. I hope many will just make up their mind at the last moment to attend, there is no pre-registration as Cat has mentioned so there is no excuse that you forgot to send it in on time. Just load up if your rig is road-worthy, (I wish mine was), come in a S&S, Class "A" or ""C" or trailer and lets forget the outside world and problems in it for a weekend.
As you all know Jack & Paula Conrad will be there and everyone in the Good Ole USA knows who they are and what a privilege it is to mix company with them. Come and meet them in person finally if you are close enough to just drive on over or come and camp for the weekend to be with us all. This mini-rally is being made possible through Kyle & Nancy and his family & Kyle's Dad & mom which I certainly appreciate and hope it will grow through the years such as Jack & Paula's rally at Arcadia, FL, as we are centrally located for those Northern Boys & Gals I wish could come also. Maybe next year if they can't this year we will all make this a much larger event certainly remembered when Jack & Paula come our way each year as a reason for us to gather again.
I have thrown together a small Karaoke set up so we can have some music if we wish, so if you have a special karaoke CD you sing at home with please bring it with you and after you get the nerve to get up there realizing no one will critique you then you can relax and sing for us all to enjoy. Remember Simon Cowel will not be there at this time and this will not be on "American Idol" so just plan to come and have fun with it like we did at Arcadia with Bill and Nick's set up last year. My set up is not as elaborate as their's is but who cares if you have fun with it. I promise not to have it so loud that it can be heard in Delaware!!
Well, it is almost time for our Flea Market run and my back pack is empty and ready to fill up with those items I really need to have, (For my garage sale one day I bet). See you all at the rally, don't forget also that Dallas & Cat will be there and everyone knows of them on the MAK board also so come and introduce yourselves to them and lets show all our appreciation to be able to do this together this weekend and also maybe I can get some last minute ideas what to do with my rig while there. I am nearly done my RE-framing, Imagine that!! A special personal thanks goes here from me to Steve & Debbie for that kick in the pants.
Don't forget also, PHOTO'S will be taken!! So if your Cheating or Eating it may be seen world wide in a few days. Well, I won't take close ups of the Eating part, since a good friend made me realize she did not appreciate those photos' being taken while eating. Let me know if your Cheating, I will delete those photos too!! LOL!! Only kidding on this now.
See you all that can attend Friday.
Gary
We are looking forward to seeing you guys again. We had the good fortune of having Jack and Paula spend time with us at SOB and, as always, we had fun. Now I know why Gary didn't answer my email...he was busy catching up with Jack and Paula. Oh, well, woe is me!!! LOL Cat
I'm goin' grocery shopin' tonight & I'm planning on a little extra.
So don't let lack of 'reservations' stop you from stopping by! We'll manage to get by! :o ;D
We can always run out to the store if it looks like we'll need more. ;D 8)
A recap of the menu
(bring what you are able - your favorite side &/or a donation)
Friday:
supper - you are on your own :o
Saturday:
breakfast - pancakes & sauasge
lunch - burgers & hot dogs & watermellon
afternoon - hand churned home made icecream 8)

We made it to the State park in Chester and found a fairly shady spot and decided to just chill a while. We have enjoyed just a bit of vacation, no job, no packing, no bus maintenance and a nice lake we can watch all day. We will see everyone tomorrow evening! Looking forward to it!! Cat
FWIW I've been trying to think of something where we guys could put our collective thinking to work and find interesting...somewhere this side of a full blown seminar...and remembered that last winter I bought an Ultra-sonic leak detector. It's great for finding those stupid little air leaks which plague us all.
While there's no substitute for the old spray bottle of soapy water this tester allows you to cover a lot more ground in a shorter period of time and zero in to the suspect areas. I'll pop a fresh battery in it and bring it along and would be happy to let anyone borrow it if they have a questionable area they'd like to check out.
Just please don't fill the listening end up with grease! ???
That is right after I find the leak in my spare tire compartment.......
Bob
Bob,
I have my ultra sonic tester with us also and our Laser temp gun and phototach, if anyone wants to check anything on their bus. Lookin' forward to seein' everyone. Jack
Shucks Jack...Had I known you had an Ultrasonic Tester I could have spent that money on beer or guitar lessons..."too soon old and too late smart", right?

Ok, I'm preparing for the journey in the am and I want to make sure that I have done what I can to prepare for the ride. I have checked the normal items suchas tires, oil etc.. Everything seems to function well. Now don't get me wrong, everything is not perfect, but working. There are a few air leaks here and there, but it pumps up from zero in about 5 min, cranks when asked, and stops when brakes are applied. I do need to check the coolant level but not quite sure how. I did drive the bus a fair amount this week running everything through to motions and all seemed well. I guess I am aprehensive due to the fact that I just got the bus and did not plan on taking it out this soon, but I really want some input and I know if I bring it I will get more than a share. Fire away.
buddydog
remember my first trip in the bus. Was to Daytona bike week.
along about harleyville sc it started to run hot. had to stop and put water in about every 100 or so miles.
One of my traveling Buddy's had a new s&s with a cummins said he would follow me and look after me and the old bus.
Along about jacksonville he came across the radio and said to slow down he was having trouble keeping up. I finally pulled over and he came by blowing smoke bad.
we got it into a cumming dealer in jacksonvile. placed his bikes in my trailer and proceeded on. At daytona i pulled my dipstick out and water ran out. removed the plug and let it drain all week, filled it up with fresh oil and started home. made it back to north carolina.
The s&s made in back 6 month's later with a new cummings. The old detroit just got a new head and keeps on ticking.
look forward to seeing you this week
