Title: OT: Off Topic: Computer Problem
Post by: BusCrazyTom on July 04, 2007, 12:59:36 PM
Had a hard drive crash the other day and am now trying to restore all my old e-mail files to a new copy of Outlook Express. Does anyone know the filename and where it would be found on my hard drive, and the best way to get this done?

Thanks

It can vary depending on the version and the installation setup.  You can determine your location by going to the Tools menu > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder.

Here is where it is on Windows XP Pro, with Outlook Express 6 using default installation options:

C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME_HERE\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{4F91AC3B-21DA-4F0A-8A8C-B96DCBF0CF0E}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

The best way to import would be to use the File > Import menu.  First import the mail accounts settings, then the address book and finally the messages.

HighTech,

Thanks for the info. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro and Outlook Express 5

I just checked a Windows 2000 Pro box.  It appears the default locations are the same.
